The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Thursday, May 2, 2024, announced the closure of the Nakuru-Eldoret highway at the Timboroa Market.

In a statement, KeNHA indicated that the main road was closed after being damaged by floods, leaving part of the road showing signs of possible collapse.

The government agency warned road users against using the affected section of the highway for safety reasons.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority regrets to inform the public of the closure of the Nakuru – Eldoret Road (A8) at the Timboroa Market."

"This follows damage caused by heavy rain early this morning, which left part of the road showing signs of possible collapse," part of the statement from KeNHA read.

Meanwhile, motorists have been directed to alternative routes within the Timboroa area.

The closure of the Eldoret-Nakuru highway resulted in heavy traffic congestion, with KeNHA urging drivers to exercise caution.

"All road users are requested to be cautious, avoid interference, and follow instructions from traffic officers to ensure smooth traffic flow," KeNHA noted.

Meanwhile, the Authority emphasized its commitment to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage of goods and services.

This move comes as the relevant authority for urban roads, KURA, announces the closure of several roads in Nairobi County and neighboring counties due to increasing floods.
