Pastor Dorcas Rigathi was on Friday moved to tears as she made a passionate appeal for youth in Kiambu county to shun alcoholism and drug abuse.

Pastor Dorcas Rigathi had visited the region and held a meeting with church leaders before proceeding to a medical camp where she addressed the youth.

She regretted that alcoholism and drug abuse had destroyed their lives, left others dead and rendered others poor.

"We have buried a lot of our young men. We will not do that again. We have been left with sick men. We want to take you to rehab since we need you now and in future. God is opening a way for you” she said.

Pastor Dorcas noted that alcoholism and drug abuse is a big challenge in the country more so the Mt Kenya region where it has ravaged families.

“The society needs you. You have the seeds to the continuity of this society, you cannot till the land and lack seeds. All these women need you, they need your seeds while you are healthy” she said and started shedding tears.

Meanwhile women in Kiambu county have threatened to start invading bars and alcohol outlets that operate before and beyond recommended hours of operation.

They also warned illicit liquor brewers and sellers that they will destroy their stock and whip them should they continue distilling the dangerous drinks.

Chairperson of Nyakanini women group in Kiambaa constituency Mercy Nyambura urged men from the region to support them once the operation starts.

Nyambura said illicit brews, dangerous drinks and drugs have rendered men unproductive and left them useless.

She added that a number of those affected cannot sire children, provide for their families or work as they spend their time getting drunk.

"We know at some point we might break the law, we want to ensure that we have saved our young people and men since we need you today and days to come," Nyambura said.

She said they were also emotional after Pastor Dorcas shed tears while pleading with the youth in the area to stop taking illicit brews and drugs.

"We started crying when we realised that Pastor Dorcas was shedding tears because of our men. Some of us felt we also have a responsibility of guarding our men, brothers, sons and cousins and any other man who lives around," she said.

"We have to move very fast and we will not waste any time. We have called a meeting today so that we can start moving. We will not hide, we shall strike until we reduce these habits and the sale of these drugs and alcohol in our region,” she said.

Nyambura said some parts of Kiambaa like Banana, Riani and their surrounding are known for hard drugs, bhang and illicit brew businesses.

She said they will continue seeking for Pastor Rigathi’s advice since they believe they must win the war of alcoholism and drugs.
