Comedian Njugush wants the masses to know that he wasn't in any way trying to sanitize Equity bank after he faced harsh criticism and backlash online.

In an interview with Nairobi news, the father of two revealed that his videos/posts had been planned in advance and the marketing was an ongoing campaign that had nothing to do with the equity drama, the timing was just off.

"Guys, there is nothing as sanitising. Actually, it was a scheduled post but the agenda must agend, right?” Njugush said.

The actor had posted an ad for Equity Bank on his socials where he tried to encourage the masses to use the bank to pay for back-to-school shopping and school fees.

In the now-deleted video following numerous negative comments, Njugush could be heard highlighting how the bank provides a stress-free experience for parents, saying, “Wazazi, I experienced the convenience first-hand at Meru School.Nawaambia kulipa fees ni FREE wakilipa via Equity Mobile App.”

Netizens were quick to descend on the comedian with allegations that that he was trying to 'sanitize' the brand amidst complaints from their customers as far as their services are concerned.

On whether the negative feedback had affected his brand, the comedian revealed that he was all good and nothing had been affected.

Affecting nope... Timing ndio mbaya (only the timing was off). But affecting nope we’ve been in worse situations bana,” casually said Njugush.

After an uproar on KOT where the Bank was called out by the public for having fraudulent activities as customers voiced they'd lost huge sums of money from their accounts on different occasions, Equity Bank has since advised its users against using public Wi-Fi when transacting on their app.

In a letter addressed to its customers, the bank stipulated some don’t s that their clients need to follow in a bid to wade off fraudsters.

“Do not share personal data such as your account number, card/CW, ID number, date of birth, etc with anyone. Do not share your pin, password, or OTP with anyone including your family, relatives, or friends. Do not engage fraudsters on call or sms. Equity will only call you through 0763 000 000.” The letter reads.

Equity also acknowledged receiving fraud complaints from their customers but assured them that they were working to ensure the bank remained a safe and secure place for transactions.
