Joy and excitement were witnessed in a Catholic church in Kiambu County after a man with two wives was allowed by the church to marry the first wife, while the second wife followed as a witness.

In what attracted the attention of many, the unusual wedding between Patrick Ndacu and his first wife took place in a Catholic church in Kiambu County.

According to reports of the wedding highlighted on Citizen TV, Ndacu wrote a will dividing his inheritance equally between his two wives before obtaining permission to marry.

The church said it took about 5 years to reach the decision to allow Ndacu to marry his first wife, while the second wife watched how the entire ceremony was conducted in the church.

Ndacu married his first wife, Margaret Nyokabi, with whom he had been married for over 40 years.

The elder said he was eager to return to church to start receiving sacraments and engaging in church construction, which according to Catholic Church regulations, requires one to be baptized and married.

The Catholic Church, like other Christian denominations, does not allow marriages with more than one wife as only one is recognized.

"The first wife was present, then he went and married the second wife and they had children together, but now he has come back wanting to marry the first wife. They all sat down and agreed for him to choose one to marry, and luck fell on the first wife," the priest said.

"We agreed and sat down, and she divided my property, and the other wife also got hers, then the wedding took place," the second wife said.

"They don't allow us to wear rings for two people in front of the church, but when we are outside, I will announce and show the world that these are my wives, and I love them equally," the elder said.
