Here are the words that made everyone crack up in the room in 2022

When it comes to trends and creativity on social Kenyans are known as the aptest and this year was no different.

Here are some of the ways in which KOT trended this year: 

1. Mapema ndio best

This was one of the slogans that trended in 2022, the phrase has been used whenever someone wanted to justify why they were getting drunk.

In Swahili the word 'mapema' literally means 'early', therefore the phrase itself translates to 'the earlier the better.

2. Sina maoni

This slogan came to life when a voter during the 2022 general election in August was asked for his opinion on the elections and he kindly responded by calmly saying the words.

3. Murife

This slogan came from a hilarious clip of a lady telling a guy not to run while he was being chased by a stray dog.

4.Enda Skia vibaya na huko

In 2020, this phrase was being used by someone who made you feel bad and they were unapologetic.

5.Kata simu tupo site

This was another phrase that was famous in 2022. It was mostly used in place of  'i am busy' or when you did not want any disturbance.

6.Masaa ni machache mambo ni mengi

This phrase originated from a  Tanzanian comedian who uttered the phrase to mean that time is the limit when there's a lot to do.

Here in Kenya, it was playfully used to say that 'there's a lot to do'.

7. Hiyo ni Uongo

This phrase erupted from a crowd that was bashing a politician that was addressing it.

8. Opaque nature

2022 was the year for the Kenyan general in Kenya and this is when the phrase started.

The then IEBC vice-chairperson Juliana Cherera said that she had refused to participate in the announcing of the election results due to the 'opaque' nature of the process.

As expected Kenyans quickly learned that phrase and used it to cheekily describe anything that seemed off for them.
