Due to heavy rainfall, the Kenya Highways Authority has announced the closure of several roads due to flooding.

In public notices issued on Saturday afternoon, the Authority stated that the Laisamis-South Horr Road at Namarai area has been closed. This closure is a result of a washout caused by the heavy rains in the region. KeNHA has cautioned road users against attempting to use this section of the road for their own safety.

Director General Eng Kung'u Ndung'u assured the public that they are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as the water recedes, enabling restoration works to begin.

This closure adds to the temporary shutdown of the Malindi-Sala Gate Road at Madumadu village since Friday evening. While the road remains closed as of Saturday afternoon, motorists are advised to utilize the Girimacha-Sosobora-Krashini loop road.

Ndung'u explained that the closure of the Malindi-Sala Gate Road was due to River Sabaki overflowing its banks following heavy rainfall upstream.

Motorists using the Naivasha-Nairobi Road were also alerted to flooding between Soko Mjinga and Flyover, resulting in traffic congestion. Ndung'u urged drivers to proceed with caution and avoid overlapping to facilitate quick clearance by police and traffic marshals.

However, there was some positive news for motorists using the Mai Mahiu-Suswa-Narok Road, as it has been partially reopened. Ndung'u advised caution due to ongoing heavy rainfall in the area, which is hindering complete restoration of traffic flow.

He specified that the affected section lies between the Weighbridge and Suswa Ranch, spanning approximately 14 to 40 kilometers from Mai Mahiu. Motorists were urged to exercise caution and follow guidance from traffic marshals to prevent getting stranded on silt deposits.

In light of the current situation, Ndung'u emphasized that KeNHA is working tirelessly to ensure the safety of all road users. He reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to providing uninterrupted connectivity to ensure the safe transportation of goods and services.
