Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has unveiled plans to construct a nightclub within Uhuru Park, presenting it as an alternative to the proliferation of nightclubs in residential areas.

"There is a nightclub that is going to be here. We agreed hiyo kupiga kelele kwa estate muache. You can come here and scream until the cows come home," he stated emphatically. "That is the zone, sherehe mfanyie hapo."

He elaborated that additional projects, including Swahili and African restaurants, will also be developed within the park through public-private partnerships (PPPs).

Sakaja assured interested parties that the locations for these facilities have been identified and emphasized transparency in the process.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of the park by the Ministry of Defence, Sakaja announced the forthcoming tendering process in accordance with the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act (PPDA).

Additionally, he urged Nairobians to safeguard the park and adhere to its rules, underscoring the significance of preserving and enhancing green spaces across the city.

He also addressed encroachment issues, urging those occupying park land to vacate voluntarily to avoid forced evictions.

Regarding City Park, Sakaja mentioned its imminent transfer to the county from the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).

In November 2022, City Hall revoked licenses for nightclubs operating in residential areas and declared a cessation of permits for such establishments. Sakaja outlined a new policy where nightclub licenses will be restricted to the Central Business District and specified streets within residential zones.
