Rap artist Octopizzo has emerged to explain why these days he is not in a hurry to release many songs.

Octopizzo, who was speaking at the EAEA 2024 awards ceremony in Nairobi on Sunday night, said that in recent years, he has only been releasing 3 songs per year, saying he no longer feels pressured.

The artist said that in Kenya, there are no new artists challenging those who have been in the music industry for a long time, so every year you find the same artists from 10 years ago.

The rapper from Kibera said that in Kenya, there are more than fifteen thousand artists, but if you count the artists who treat music as a business, they cannot exceed 10.

"In Kenya, we have a music sector but we don't have a music business. Artists are doing business with songs; they cannot even reach 10, but if you look at the MCSK, more than 16,000 artists are registered," Octopizzo said.

"Even if you look, since we started, for example, I was recognized musically in 2012 but until now, we are still in the game, not because we like it, but because there are no new artists. I release 3 songs per year these days because I'm not in a rush. I've already created what I wanted to create; now I make songs because I love them. If I stay without releasing a song, it gets boring for me," he added.
