Pastor who called out congregant apologises

The pastor publicly embarrassed her and told her she didn't look like a Law graduate based on how she spoke. He also told her there's no such thing as "BSc in Law" and asked her to leave the pulpit.

The Dunamis International Gospel Centre in Nigeria has broken its silence to issue a statement regarding the 'shameful' incident that occurred during Sunday service involving the senior pastor and a female believer.

According to a statement on the church's Instagram page, they said that the senior pastor Paul Enenche did not intend to humiliate the believer, Anyim Veronica, by dismissing her testimony as being a graduate of the law faculty.

The Sunday incident, which attracted various opinions, saw many criticizing the pastor for cutting off the believer from continuing her testimony, claiming it was fake.

The statement, signed by the Secretary to the Senior Pastor Sylvester Edoh, emphasized that the embarrassment was unintended and was an immediate response.

It reads in part:

"It must be clearly stated here that embarrassing a testimony giver publicly and in the presence of the media was never intended at all; whatever happened was under the influence of the moment.”

"The action of the Senior Pastor was more based on his and the church's principle to appear as a person of truth and to avoid any falsehood."

"Although we remain steadfast in our passion for excellence, intolerance of ignorance and falsehood, we want to emphasize the truth that no harm or pain has ever been determined by the Senior Pastor against Mrs. Anyim Veronica Nnenna. The Senior Pastor remains very passionate and has already reached out to her.”

"As a Commission, we regret every inconvenience, annoyance, and embarrassment that this unfortunate situation has caused Mrs. Anyim Veronica Nnenna. We remain committed to her physical well-being and her spiritual growth."

Earlier, Classic105 reported that a video circulated online showed Pastor Enenche rebuking the testimony giver for her claims of being the first graduate in her family.

The woman, Anyim Vera, who claimed to have graduated with a "BSc in Law" from the National Open University of Nigeria, was interrupted by Enenche, who accused her of lying.

He told her she didn't look like a Law graduate based on how she spoke. He also told her there's no such thing as "BSc in Law" and asked her to leave the pulpit.

Social media users expressed outrage at the way Pastor Enenche addressed Anyim, calling for an apology.
