We had a bitter quarrel that night - Mother of suspect in Eric Maigo murder speaks

Maigo was discovered with 25 stab wounds at his Woodley Estate residence last week.

acting finance director at Nairobi Hospital Erick Maigo.

The family of the main suspect in the murder of the Nairobi Hospital acting Finance Director Eric Maigo has broken its silence on the matter.

Speaking to NTV, the mother said that on the fateful day, her daughter had spent time in their house where they had a quarrel over food at around 10 pm.

In an effort to avoid any further squabbles and confrontations between them, she ordered the minor to wait out and allow her to continue with the house duties.

This loosely translated to: ‘I told her I would have punished her but because I did not want to develop anger because of her, she should wait outside and only come back when I am done.’

The minor heeded her mother’s instructions and sat outside until the cooking had been done.

She then came back to the house, closed the door and took her mattress in a clear indication that she was ready to sleep.

However, it is suspected that she sneaked out of the house at around midnight when everyone else was asleep.

“Sasa mimi nikapika chakula ikaiva ako tu huko nje, kumaliza akakuja akapata tushamaliza kukula mimi nikaamka nikaenda kwa room ya kulala. Nikaona ameingia kama anafunga mlango akatoa mattress, mimi nikaacha kama nimejua mtu anataka kulala sasa pia mimi nikalala tu nikawachana na yeye,” he mother said.

She added: “Mimi nilijua mtu amelala kwa nyumba. Asubuhi ndio wanaamka saa kumi na mbili watoto wananiambia hayuko, nikasema asubuhu ameamka ameenda wapi.”

This is translated to mean, ‘I went to bed knowing that she was also going to sleep so I decided to leave her alone. It was in the morning at 6 am that is when the other kids told me she was not in’.

The minor who was arrested on Tuesday night has been detained for 21 days pending investigations.

Police said the suspect, a minor believed to be between 15 to 17 years old, has been on the run since last week Thursday.

She was arrested in Kibera slums, Nairobi in an intelligence-led operation by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives.
