Arrests to Closure! Key developments that happened ahead of today’s Maandamano

Several key events have happened ahead of today's Maandamano called by the Azimo la Umoja Coalition led by Raila Odinga to protest the high cost of living.

The demos are expected to start on Wednesday and end on Friday.

On Tuesday Night the following events happened:

The government withdrew Mama Ngina Kenyatta's Security.

All-day schools in Kisumu, Nairobi, and Mombasa were closed temporarily.

Kenya Railways suspended all commuter train services ahead of demos.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owinio and activist Gaucho were allegedly arrested.

Security for Most Azimio leaders was withdrawn including that of Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome banned the Azimio demonstration scheduled for Wednesday.

High commissioners called on President William Ruto and Azimio's Raila Odinga to dialogue.

Doctors called on security agencies to ensure the safety of healthcare facilities, personnel, and patients during the Azimio protests.

Interior Cabinet secretary Kithure Kindiki warned that no anti-government demonstrations will be allowed.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations warned the public against online incitement to violence and misinformation through social media sites.

Most shops in the Nairobi Central Business District remained closed.

Dozens of National Youth Service Patrol were deployed to sections of Nairobi streets.
