Langa'ta MP Phelix Odiwuor aka Jalang'o was among the attendees at the candle-lighting vigil event for the late Duncan Okoth aka comedian Ochonjo.

In his speech, Jalang'o asked fellow creatives not to give up on their work.

"Everybody looked at him and thought he was okay but a brother was dying. Call a friend, ask them how they are doing. It doesn't take so much. We will be travelling to Nyakch, I will not go there as an MP but as an artist. "To mourn a friend and a brother, somebody I also mentored. As we grow, mentor someone, and don't give up, one day it will work out."

Jalas said most upcoming creatives are lucky for having platforms like Youtube and Tiktok where they can showcase their work "We used to sit here (Kenya National Theatre) and wait to be paid 160 bob per show. My first payment was a packet of chips. I walked all the way to Mwiki."

Ochonjo's brother Kevin Okoth said the late comedian's death was caused by organ failure.

"All his organs zilikuwa zimebeat liver, kidney. Kitu imemuumiza Dan. He had Tuberculosis and you cant treat TB while these organs are not functioning."

"There was a clash of medication, so it was hard,"

The news of his passing was announced by actress Sandra Dacha.

“Life is pleasant. DEATH is peaceful. It’s the transition that’s troublesome.“REST IN PEACE my friend/colleague @ochonjodunco."

“10/5/2023. You embrace death because life doesn’t exist without you. You have left some wonderful memories that will never fade from our hearts. Until we meet again rest in peace Ochos🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️,”
