Peter Kalerwa Salasya is the current Member of Parliament of Mumias East Constituency. He was elected under the party Democratic Action Party (DAP) during the 2022 general elections. 

The 32 year old  MP garnered 12,140 votes to win the Mumias East parliamentary race defeating the second candidate, Mr Wamatsi of Amani National Congress (ANC) party, with 3097 votes. 

Honorable Salasya caught the public eye due to the odds that he fought against before being elected as an MP. He is the real definition of dreams are valid regardless of your social status and family background. Below are things that you did not know about him: 

1. He went to Shianderema Primary School

In 2005, he took his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) at Shianderema Primary School in Kakamega.

2.He later enrolled in Lubinu Boys High School for his secondary school education

3. In 2007, he lost his father

When he was in form two Hon. Salasya lost his father.

4. He attended Egerton University for his undergraduate studies

5. He has a degree in Bachelor of Commerce 

6.  He was involved in campus politics 

He ran for the position of Director of Academics as a freshman but was unsuccessful, becoming the last candidate.

7. He worked as an operational manager at Diamond Trust Bank

Before running for a parliament seat, he worked at Diamond Trust Bank, which he left in 2017 after venturing into politics.

8. In 2017, he ran for the Mumias East Constituency Member of Parliament for the first time

Honorable Peter Salasya vied for an MP seat in 2017 but lost after garnering 254 votes. He was the last person among the 9 candidates vying for the same seat. 

9. He holds a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management

From Sigalagala National Polytechnic.

10. He was once a volunteer teacher at Siglalagala national polytechnic

From the polytechnic he used to earn a stipend of KSh 13,000 per month.

11. He campaigned using a handcart pushed by his supporters

12. He only had 500 Kenyan shillings in his pocket during his swearing in as MP

During the 2022 general election campaign, Hon. Salasya's supporters surprised him by demolishing his mud house and building him a semi-permanent house.
