Messi breaks the internet with his photo lifting the World Cup trophy

Footballer Lionel Messi has made history after his photo holding the World Cup trophy become the most liked picture on Instagram.

The photo in question has accumulated over 60 million likes breaking the record that was set by an egg picture a few years ago.

At the same time, Messi has accumulated over 400 million followers.

Messi's photo has over 60 million likes and counting surpassing the previous record that was held by an egg since 2019, which has 56.4m likes.

It has also surpassed the likes of his photo with Ronaldo that was posted on Ronaldo's page.

Messi is the second most followed person on the photo and video-sharing platform after Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has over 500 million followers- the first human being to achieve such a milestone on Instagram.

He celebrated the milestone a few weeks ago with a message to his fans and followers across the world.

Messi helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after going into the penalty shootout with France.

The match ended with a 3-3 draw and France lost to Messi's side in the penalty shootout.

The worldwide watched game saw Argentina winning 4 goals against France who managed 2 in the penalties.

Before the penalties, both teams had a draw of 3 goals each.  

The winning champions will receive a hefty Sh5.61 while the runners-up will get $30m (Sh3.70 billion).
