RISING INSECURITY: President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi

The statements of Inspector General of Officers Japhet Koome about police utilizing weapons when under danger and to protect property have been echoed by President William Ruto.

Ruto added that police have the necessary resources and support to handle insecurity, adding that they can use weapons when in danger and refuse to let criminals have the upper hand.

On Wednesday, the President addressed a gathering of the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary group at State House.

He declared that criminals would not be permitted to rule the city and continue endangering the lives of citizens.

"We cannot allow criminals to overrun our cities or any part of Kenya. We have given you the instruments. You have the backing of the law to make sure we deal with criminals firmly, decisively, conclusively in accordance with the law and the constitution," Ruto said.

“If any officer is in danger, they must use their firearms to deal with the criminals, we cannot allow criminals to overrun our cities or any part of Kenya.”

The President said the police should have no excuses when dealing with the current crime wave in the country.

“Police are on it. They have instructions and the support they need to fight insecurity around the country. They have no excuses,” he said.

Ruto had earlier said that together with the interior ministry, he will ensure that Kenya is set free from criminals, bandits, cattle rustlers and terrorists.
