Willy Paul was the most streamed artiste in Kenya last year. The artiste had some break-out hits last year including “Halleluyia” featuring Nandi and “Mmmh” featuring Rayvanny. Both songs have garnered close to 22 million views on Youtube to date.
I recently spoke to the singer about the year he had had and his plans for 2020. Willy revealed that 2019 had gone exactly as he had planned and that in 2020, he was ready to surprise people with greater and better.
“2019 was a good year. My target for 2019 was to remain at number one in Kenya, which I did and to do international collaborations which I was able to do.”
On his plans for 2020, the musician said that he wanted to keep up the same spirit that he had gone through 2019 in.
“2020 isn’t going to be any different lakini tutaenda a notch higher. The project I am releasing tomorrow is going to be the talk of the town. I will not state the name of the song but it will be good.”
The “gospel” artiste has recently been seen promoting a liquor brand on his Instagram pages raising eyebrows among many observers.
Was he a brand ambassador for the liquor brand? Willy responded in the affirmative noting that it was just a business to him. Does this mean that he had crossed over from being a gospel musician to being a secular artiste?
Willy responded by simply saying that he was just an “artiste”. Nothing more and nothing less.
