All roads led to Nairobi’s Uhuru Gardens on Saturday night where Kenyans turned up in thousands for the Etana returns concert.
Unlike many recent shows in Kenya, the Etana returns concert lived up to the hype which was created from as early as January.
The beautiful, bubbly and energetic Etana returned to a place she calls home and surely did not disappoint her adoring fans.
Young and old, single or taken, Kenyans were not letting the chance to be serenaded by Jamaica’s finest pass them by.
The event kicked off with DJ performances before the talented Gravity band left fans begging for more by the time their time on stage was up.
Wyre the love child, reminded us of the good ‘ol days with Necessary Noiz and at times had to let the fans sing along to his popular jams.
By the time Etana took to stage some minutes past 1am, the crowd was ready to party with the ‘Weakness in me’ hit maker.
Accompanied by her band which was largely made of Kenyan artists, Etana gave an electric performance for close to three hours.
The Grammy awards nominee was left in awe as Kenyans sang along to her songs from the classics to the very latest collections.
It was however a disappointing night for the singles since they had no one to turn to the moment she performed ‘My man’ and ‘Love song’.
At a certain moment, Etana invited a few Kenyans on stage to showcase their dancing abilities and my, she had to take a step back and marvel at the raw talents.
The energy from the crowd was thrilling and no one even walked out after she was done performing at around 3:30.
Super MC Tear gas popularly known as ‘Baba Dede’ kept the crowd on their feet till dawn.
All I can say is that was one of the best concerts I have ever attended.
The money was totally worth it, the set up was crazy and I would do it again if Etana plans to show up again!
