What is a revenge body and should you get one?

The term revenge body has become a part of modern culture and I am not talking about the E! show that is headlined by socialite Khloe Kardashian.

The term came sometime before the show and has certainly enjoyed a popularisation from the hugely popular show. But what is it? The ‘revenge body’ is a term coined to describe the body (mostly women) strive to obtain after someone has wronged them.

This is to show the person who left you/wronged you what they are missing out on. Kim Kardashian herself explains on the first episode of the show, ‘a great body is the best revenge.’

Celebs like Jennifer Aniston, Kim Kardashian West and Britney Spears have all had ‘revenge bodies’ in the past. Even Tom Cruise’s ex, Katie Holmes was said to have the ‘Best Revenge Body’ in 2012 after her divorce from the megastar.

The phrase appeared in the Urban Dictionary in 2015 and now Khloé Kardashian has expanded the definition to include anyone you’d like to get revenge on, not just a lover scorned.

The term is a ‘revenge body’ is a pretty transparent reaction to a painful life event, a way to do something and feel in control.

But one must ask the question; Is it o.k for a person’s motive to get fitter, healthier and looking better to be to get revenge on someone?

I argue that it isn’t the best reason to lose weight but that in an age when obesity and lifestyle diseases are becoming the norm, that any reason (even a vacuous one at that) should not be disregarded in the pursuit for healthier people.

Don’t forget that some of the greatest brands in our history were started because of revenge. Ferruccio Lamborghini, the famous Italian supercar maker started his company, Lamborghini after he and Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari had a spat.

Lamborghini was unhappy that Enzo Ferrari had abused him after he complained about a certain car that he had bought from him. After that, Ferruccio vowed that he would make a car that would not only compete but outshine the marque.

Yes, revenge is one of the biggest and best motivators behind humans ingenuity.
