The Paris 2024 Olympics are approaching, with countries preparing intensively for the games. Kenya has won a total of 113 Olympic medals through 2022, including 35 gold.

From 1956 to 2016, Kenya earned 103 medals, all in boxing and track and field events. Overall, 33 Kenyan athletes have won gold, 39 have earned silver, and 36 have claimed bronze.

Kenya boasts several capable athletes who will compete in the Olympics this August.

Here are some notable athletes:

  • Ferdinand Omanyala: Competing in the men's 100m race, Omanyala is renowned for his impressive speed. He won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and set a world-leading time of 9.79 seconds in the 100 meters.

  • Mary Moraa: A versatile athlete, Moraa competes in both sprints and middle-distance events, including the women’s 400m and 800m races.

  • Faith Kipyegon: A double world champion and record holder in the women’s 1500m, Kipyegon also competes in the 5000m. She is a top middle-distance runner with multiple accolades.

  • Beatrice Chebet: The 2023 World 5,000m silver medalist will compete in the 5,000m and 10,000m events at the Paris Olympics, focusing on long-distance races.

  • Mixed 4x400m Relay Team: The team includes David Sanayek Kapirante, Boniface Ontuga Mweresa, Kelvin Sane Tauta, Mercy Chebet, Veronica Kamumbe Mutua, and Maureen Nyatichi Thomas.

Korir, the Team Kenya coach has advised the team to stay sharp, noting that the global athletics landscape has become increasingly competitive.

He also mentioned that the female athletes on the Kenyan team are statistically stronger and likely to outperform their male counterparts.
