Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe is pleading with the court to release her on bail to enable her care for her four-year-old son.
On Monday, both Maribe and her fiance Jowie denied being involved in businesswoman Monica Kimani’s murder and are set to appear in court today again.
In an affidavit filed in court through lawyer Katwa Kigen, Maribe says she is innocent in the eyes of the law, was in the current mess because of her association with Jowie, who’s the main suspect in Monica’s murder.
She says she never knew Monica nor anyone known to her and it would be unfair to keep her in custody for more days.
In her affidavit, Maribe said that she
I WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE MURDER, WAS NOT AT THE SCENE OF THE MURDER AND HAD NO KNOWLEDGE O (MONICA) OR ANY PERSON KNOWN TO HER. ANY ASSOCIATION ALLEGED AH\GAINST ME WITH THE MURDER IS WHOLLY WEAK CIRCUMSTANTIAL ASSOCIATION WITH JOWIE (JOSEPH IRUNGU).
Just like any other caring an loving mother, Maribe wants to go back home and be with her son, whom she has raised single-handedly since birth. In her affidavit, she goes on to say;
I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF A CHILD AGED FOUR WHO SOLELY DEPENDS ON ME FOR SOCIAL AND FINANCIAL UPKEEP. HE IS OF TENDER AGE AND WILL DEEPLY SUFFER IF I REMAIN IN CUSTODY UNTIL THE CONCLUSION OF THE MURDER TRIAL WHICH MIGHT TAKE LONG. I PLEAD WITH THE COURT TO ALLOW ME BE AVAILABLE TO HIM.
The TV girl and Jowie have spent more than three weeks in custody and she swore that she has surrendered her house and phone to the police so that they can go on with the investigations and release her on bail.
She also says she is willing to surrender her passport to court.
THERE ARE NO COMPELLING REASONS WHATSOEVER THAT CAN DENY ME BOND. I’M A WELL-KNOWN TV JOURNALIST. MOST KENYANS ARE CONVERSANT WITH MY JOB AND CAN EASILY SPOT ME ANYWHERE; THEREFORE, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO JUMP BAIL.
I HAVE SURRENDERED MYSELF, AVAILED MY CAR, HANDED OVER MY HOUSE, COOPERATED FOR DNA TESTS AND HANDED OVER MY PHONE WITHOUT ANY DIFFICULTY. I HAVE ALSO BEEN INTO CONTACT WITH ANY PROSECUTION WITNESSES TO WARRANT DENYING BAIL.
