I will admit, I hate having long nails and not for the reason you may think. Yes, the dirt you get when you don’t clean them is a bother, but that is not the reason. It is that they look very ugly, as I am a victim of my own nail-biting while I was younger. This single fact has made my nails every bit as bad as you can imagine.
So when I see people with long and immaculate kuchas, I envy them, then I say:
“You know what, I hate having long kuchas!”
That is my own way of dealing with this inadequacy. But that is neither here nor there. The next story is about one woman who does not share my problems. In fact, she is so good at it, that she has been able to keep her nails without cutting them for 23 years. Yes, 23 years!
Ayanna Williams spent 23 years growing out her nails, and she finally broke the 2018 Guinness world record for the world’s longest fingernails for a female. The grandmother and nail artist from Texas — whose nails are 18 feet, 10.9 inches long — says she needs 20 hours and two bottles of nail polish to paint them! What!
Ayanna told People she paints her nails in colorful patterns and designs about once a month but has to clean them with a brush and/or disinfectant several times a day. Watu wana mda sana!
Since her nails prevent her from doing things like washing the dishes, her granddaughters help her with chores around the house. She even admits to eating popcorn… with a spoon. The most difficult task, however, is pulling up her pants!
