‘I made him wait!’ William Ruto’s wife says about his marriage proposal

William Ruto and his wife have one of the most fascinating relationships among the political elite, only comparable to that of the Raila’s and the Uhuru’s.

As with many leaders, mythos and legend surround the courtship process among these people that many adore and respect.

The deputy president, William and his wife have been married for close to 30 years with Ruto marrying Rachel Chebet in 1991.

Their romance didn’t start on solid ground as Rachel wasn’t so sure that William was the right man.

In a 2014 interview on Woman Without Limits, Rachel told Kathy Kiuna that she knew DP William Ruto from when they were children – but she wasn’t romantically involved with him until they got to campus.

I would see him in the youth camps and he was active in the youth choir and in acting in the church as well.

Rachel disclosed that it was when she joined campus that she started dating Ruto. The DP was then studying at the University of Nairobi as she pursued her teaching practice in Eldoret. While praying for a husband she received the two name-William Ruto from God.

The next after the divine revelation her future husband travelled to Eldoret with the intention of getting her to marry him. She told Kathy,

He didn’t beat around the bush. He asked me the question.

But she still didn’t acquiesce to Ruto’s proposal despite the revelation. She told Kathy that she still needed to pray more about it,

As much as in the previous night, God had assured me of the man I was going to marry, I told him (Ruto) ‘I’ll pray about it and get back to you’. I did want to show him that I was just waiting.

Immediately she finished her teaching practice, she went to Nairobi and told Ruto that she was ready for marriage. She concluded,

We got married immediately after graduation at 23 years and we have six children.

Waiguru speaks about why William Ruto didn’t attend her wedding

Anne Waiguru got married last month to Nairobi lawyer, Kamotho Waiganjo. The wedding for the Kirinyaga Governor was attended by the who’s who in the country’s establishment including the President and former Prime Minister.

One notable absence was Deputy President William Ruto who skipped her wedding. Ruto’s social media pages revealed that he was in Tharaka Nithi County where he was commissioning various projects. Speaking in an interview with Tony Gachoka on KTN’s Pointblank, Waiguru was coy, saying,

Attendance of the wedding was voluntary and the absence of Ruto should not be misinterpreted to mean a souring of the relationship between us.

She also disclosed that other top leaders had attended the wedding because political formations were happening, ‘In politics, formations happen. Those who showed up at the wedding were there either to confirm their membership to emerging political formations or friendship.’

Waiguru also surprised with the statement that she was open to forming an alliance with ODM leader. She added that the Mt. Kenya would fully support Raila but she clarified that that did not mean that she had ditched DP Ruto.

Being a member of the Jubilee Party, we have to separate matters concerning the party from those of the handshake. President Kenyatta is the party leader and Ruto is the deputy party leader. When the time comes, we will make a decision on the direction the party will take. Ultimately, Kenyans will determine who will run the country. It is not an individual’s decision.

Anne Waiguru has grown from strength to strength politically since serving as the first Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Devolution and Planning, from 15 May 2013 until 21 November 2015.

She then contested for the Kirinyaga governorship in 2017 where she won a hotly contested election against Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua.

The industrious and illustrious politician has decided to take his dedication to the next level even building a church at his DP’s residence.

After the altar was dedicated by Reverend Wairimu, the guest shared a cake to celebrate. Mrs. Ruto shared the good news on the Facebook page saying;

Today (Wednesday), my husband, the Deputy President and I were blessed to have been joined by Fathers of Faith and key leaders in various mountains of influence during the opening ceremony of our National Prayer Altar at the official residence of the Deputy President. David built there an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Thus the Lord was moved by prayer for the land, and the plague was held back from Israel (2 Samuel 24:25).

The last words Joyce Laboso spoke to DP William Ruto

Ruto has famously been seen in church donating vast sums of money on his visits. One of his most memorable visits was when he visited Reverend Teresa Wairimu’s church a day after he became the DP. On that day he could be seen crying uncontrollably.

He said at the time that he was crying because of the favour of the Lord on his life;

I have not cried like this for many years. The only time I remember crying like this was when I was a little boy and my mother is here to attest to that. My wife knew me as a strong man because she had never seen me emotional like this.

William Ruto delivers emotional condolence message to grieving Peter Kenneth

William Ruto is one of the most influential politicians in Kenya, having a silky smooth tongue for both serious and humorous issues like he recently displayed at Waititu’s daughter’s wedding.

But this article is about words he delivered yesterday evening in Gatanga, Murang’a County where he was condoling former MP Peter Kenneth.

The former presidential aspirant’s 86-year-old mother, Rahab Wambui Muhuni, passed away on July 18, 2019, at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, following a long illness.

In his address, DP Ruto reiterated his, as well as his family’s sincere condolences, following Ms. Muhuni’s demise. He said melancholically;

Poleni sana from my wife and children and from many of the friends whom I’ve talked to, we are truly in remorse because of what happened to your mum. I know that a parent, however old, is so dear to one, and it’s not easy to accept, even when the reality is so clear. So to you and your family, we want to say poleni sana for the loss of your mum.

Ruto added that he was proud of the way that Peter has handled himself throughout the trying period. Peter’s mother had had a stroke in 2003 and had been confined to a wheelchair for the last 10 years. She was taken care of closely by a team of nurses who lived with her.

‘I’ve given up. Just take care of Wambui and my kids’ – Bob Collymore told Uhuru

Bob Collymore has been the by-word on many people’s lips and that is understandable. One person who spoke about him at his memorial service was President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Uhuru and Collymore were closer than most Kenyans were aware of. The two met barely a week before the late CEO’s demise and had a 4-hour conversation.

In that tête-à-tête, the two spoke about the future of Kenya as well as the telecommunications company. Bob also relayed news of his impending death.

Though the 61-year-old corporate titan put up a brave face knowing the clock was ticking, he requested Uhuru to take care of his widow Wambui Kamiru and children.

The head of state also remembered a promise that Bob had given him during the heart-to-heart. Uhuru recalled Bob’s words;

I’m going to break a promise I made to you over a year ago. I don’t think I have more than a couple of weeks to go. I’ve given up, I’ve tried everything and I have accepted my time has come. My chapter is closed. You cannot do anything for me, I have sorted my life and issues, just take care of Wambui and my kids.

William Ruto also spoke about the late visionary leader in glowing terms. He said

When you met Bob, he behaved and interacted with you as if he was going to live forever, it was quite a paradox and goes to demonstrate his life well lived.

The deceased was confirmed dead at his Nairobi home on Monday morning after losing his battle to Acute Myeloid Leukemia. His remains were cremated at Kariokor crematorium a day later.

“Mt. Kenya voters are not wheelbarrows,” Kabogo fires salvo towards Ruto

We have just come from a very divisive election that left many with clenched bu**-chicks and the politicking has already started hard and fast. Succession politics for who will take over from Uhuru Kenyatta, who will relinquish the presidency in 2022 was kicked into high gear this week. Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu endorsed the deputy president, saying that Mt Kenya people are rallying behind him.

Do these people even care about development and what people need? You win elections so that you can start campaigning to win another election? Sick! So what does Mr. Kabogo, the vanquished combatant for the Kiambu governors seat do candidate do? Obviously, go against what his political enemy sai. Politics 101. He fired a salvo at Deputy President William Ruto, maintaining that voters from Mt Kenya region are not wheelbarrows and will not be forced to vote for him in 2022.

Addressing locals in Thika town recently, Kabogo said that Kenyans will elect a leader of their choice, hinting that he is determined to join the race to State House.

“We are not political wheelbarrows to be pushed right, left and centre by anyone. We are all here to see, keep your eyes open. The game has just started.”

Ruto is hopeful that Mt Kenya voters will back him to clinch the presidency having stood by President Uhuru Kenyatta to secure a second term in office. His ambitions have however been threatened by a section of leaders who have shown little faith in him.

The beleaguered ex-governor linked his misfortunes to Ruto when he lost Jubilee party primaries to the new Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu who was voted in overwhelmingly. There are speculations that Kabogo might be given a Cabinet position by President Uhuru to place him in the apex of Mt Kenya politics.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Kenya!

Kwale woman rep Zainab Chidzuga and deputy governor Fatuma Achani were also present.

Witnesses said the woman was hit by the vehicle’s side mirror. She will be buried at her Kwale home today.

On Tuesday, a vehicle belonging to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho hit and injured one person in Changamwe.

The vehicle was in Joho’s motorcade during his campaign rally when the accident happened.

Joho halted campaigns to rush the man to the hospital.

“One of us has been hit by a car let us stop here and attend to him. We must see if he has been injured,” Joho said.

The incidents raise questions about the safety of rally attendees especially following the glaring violation of traffic rules during campaign tours.
