Local and international female celebs battling endometriosis -List

We take a look at local and international female celebrities who are battling endometriosis and those who have overcome the disease, whether partially or completely.

Endometriosis, sometimes called “endo,” is a common health problem in women. It gets its name from the word endometrium, the tissue that normally lines the uterus or womb.

Endometriosis happens when this tissue grows outside of your uterus and on other areas in your body where it doesn’t belong.

Most often, endometriosis is found on the:
  • Ovaries
  • Fallopian tubes
  • Tissues that hold the uterus in place
  • Outer surface of the uterus

1. Jahmby Koikai

Jahmby says she has battled the disease since she was 13.

My name is Mary Njambi Koikai, a stage 4 Endometriosis survivor. The disease had ravaged my body for 19years and 3 years ago it spread to my lungs and chest area.

This disease was causing my lungs to collapse every month while I was on my period. I have undergone 16 surgeries including the main surgeries here in Atlanta, Georgia.

I have never had a painless period since I was 13years old. Doctors tried everything on me.

I tried everything you can think of until my gynaecologist told me I needed specialized treatment.

‘I am not cursed, I’m fighting for other women as well’ Jahmby Koikai speaks out

2. Janet Mbugua

Janet opened up on her journey with endometriosis recently sharing her struggles and wins with the condition with her followers.

This was me in 2015. Ten years earlier, in 2005, I had just undergone a laparoscopy for deep ovarian endometriosis, also known as endometriomas or ovarian cysts.

It causes the formation of cavities within the ovary that fill with blood.

Janet Mbugua

It had been years, literally since high school, of painful, prolonged periods that sometimes rendered me unable to go to class or to the office, especially during the first few days of my cycle.

Finally getting a diagnosis was such a breakthrough and I was put on birth control thereafter and have had to continue using this, except for the times we were trying for a baby.

Until today, if I don’t take my medication, I’ll struggle during my period.

3. Ciru Muriuki

The BBC reporter has on a few occasions opened up about battling endometriosis. For her no pain can compare to the one the condition puts one through.

Sharing a past photo of her Ciru says that its been years of pain.

This was me, after my first laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis cysts. It was two days before Christmas in 2017.

Basically, what was happening was I was bleeding into my ovaries every time I had my period.

Words cannot describe the pain. It sometimes takes years for endometriosis to be definitively diagnosed because women are told that pain is part of being a woman.

4. Whoopi Goldberg

During  a past speech Whoopi said that she was lucky because her doctor was intelligent enough to identify what she was suffering from.

I had endometriosis 30 years ago maybe.

I was very, very lucky.  I had an intelligent doctor who sort of knew what was going on and said well, here take this stuff and he cleared it up.  I was very lucky.

Actress Whoopi Goldberg launches line of marijuana products for period pain

Outspoken marijuana fan Whoopi Goldberg today announced she is launching a new line of products featuring the drug that claims to help women who suffer from menstrual stomach cramps.

The 60-year-old actress, businesswoman, comedian and television host from New York, who publicly supports marijuana use, told USA Today period pain is ‘not a joke’ and that she wants to help those who suffer from it.

Whoopi says that her product, which is released next month, is for people who ‘don’t want to get high high’, but instead simply want a way to relieve their period pain in a calming and relaxing way.

It will only be available in California to people with medical marijuana cards due to the federal ban on the drug.

The View co-host launched the brand, Whoopi & Maya, with Maya Elisabeth, founder of Om Edibles, an all female-run medical-marijuana cannabis company in California.

By entering the marijuana industry, one of America’s fastest growing, Whoopi is following in the footsteps of rapper Snoop Dogg, who backs Leafs by Snoop, and the family of late singer Bob Marley, who joined a cannabis company to make Marley Natural products.

Whoopi said although joint-smoking is ‘fine’, the majority of people cannot do it before work and function.

‘For me, I feel like if you don’t want to get high high, this is a product specifically just to get rid of discomfort,’ she told Vanity Fair.

‘Smoking a joint is fine, but most people can’t smoke a joint and go to work.’

‘This, you can put it in your purse. You can put the rub on your lower stomach and lower back at work, and then when you get home you can get in the tub for a soak or make tea, and it allows you to continue to work throughout the day.’

According to Daily Mail, moments after Pirro’s ‘Trump derangement’ quote, View co-host and Trump opponent Meghan McCain said she wasn’t deranged.
And Pirro pointed at Whoopi Goldberg, setting the longtime host off.
The argument went on:
‘Did you just point at me? I don’t have Trump derangement, let me tell you what I have,’ Goldberg shot back.

‘I am tired of people starting a conversation with, “Mexicans are liars and rapists.” Listen, I’m 62 years old, there have been a lot of people in office that I don’t agree with, but I have never ever seen anything like this.’

Whoopi continued:

‘I’ve never seen anyone whip up such hate, I’ve never seen anyone be so dismissive and clearly you don’t watch this show, so you don’t know that I don’t suffer from that.

‘What I suffer from is the inability to figure out how to fix this, that’s my issue.’

Goldberg and Pirro then got into a screaming match.

Pirro declared:

‘You know what’s horrible? When people who shouldn’t be here end up murdering children of American citizens.’

‘What’s horrible is when the president of the United States whips up people to beat the hell out of people,’ Goldberg yelled back, telling Pirro she was done with the interview.

‘Say goodbye, bye! I’m done,’ Goldberg said.

The show quickly cut to a commercial break, and when it returned Pirro was no longer sitting at the table.
