We all thought he was still in China for the meeting between African heads of State, but it seems we had no idea.

Ngong Road expected to have mad traffic, here is why…

Kenyans are crushing on the breathtaking Ngong Road.

The road has been fitted with intelligent traffic signals at most junctions, pedestrian walk ways, bus stops for PSV vehicles, U-turn, for changing lanes and a wider City Mortuary Roundabout with extra lanes to cater for all directions.

With other roads marked for expansion and new ones being built, the engineering surprises are limitless, as Ngong road is yet to be completed with Phase 2 —between Dagoretti corner and Karen junction set to start next month.

Kenya Urban Roads Authority has awarded Japanese company World Kogyo Kaihatsu. The project will cost of Sh1.98 billion.

Now, police have warned of traffic disruption along Ngong Road today where President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to commission the construction of phase two of the dualling of the road from Prestige to Dagoretti Corner.

The 3.4 kilometer road is being constructed by Japanese company World Kaihatsu Kogyo Company at Sh2.2 billion and will be completed next year in July.

The president will also commission the first phase of the road, which is already complete. The project is aimed at decongesting the city.

Police warn there will be traffic disruptions on the road and want motorists to seek alternative routes.

More personnel have been deployed to the area to direct vehicles.

‘I will not tolerate jokers,’ Mheshimiwa Jaguar revives beef with Babu Owino

Remember when Starehe MP Jaguar and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino almost came to blows?

Well, that standoff is about to be revived again in the second session of the 12th Parliament.

Speaking to the Star yesterday, Jaguar accused Babu of hurling insults at President Uhuru Kenyatta and Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and hiding in Parliament to escape arrest.

“We are warning some of our leaders who use Parliament as a hiding den after hurling insults to Uhuru and Matiang’i. We are now back to business and will not tolerate jokers,” Jaguar said.

“If they continue insulting Uhuru’s administration, we will be smoking them out of Parliament and handing them over to the police.”

babu-owino-12On Wednesday last week, Babu sought intervention from House Speaker Justin Muturi after receiving reports that Flying Squad officers were eagerly waiting for him outside the precincts of Parliament Buildings.

He claimed that police officers in three vehicles wanted to arrest him for remarks he issued during the NASA’s Baba Dogo rally.

“They want to arrest me but I don’t think I will get out. If matters worsen, I will spend the night here,” he said, “This is total witch-hunt. An abuse is not a crime. That’s a civil matter. If Matiang’i feels I abused him let him proceed to a civil court instead of using police to round us up.”

In January, the MP was arrested outside Parliament buildings over assault and malicious damage to property. He was detained for two nights at Parklands police cells and released after Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja intervened.

On November late last year, Jaguar apologized to his constituents following a fist fight with Babu at Parliament buildings. Sergeants at arms had to separate the two.

Jaguar is said to have asked Babu to stop insulting the presidency before the fight.

He apologised, citing his counterpart’s alleged reference to President Uhuru Kenyatta as mtoto wa mbwa.

The first time lawmaker however promised to “square it out” with Babu if he continues to insult Uhuru and the presidency.

Lenga usaliti yao! Khalwale urges Uhuru to ignore betting companies blackmail!

Boni Khalwale has been agreeing more and more with what the Jubilee government has been doing, if you take his recent comments. One even wonders if they are living in a parallel universe? How can the former Kakamega senator be so enthusiastic about the new government’s measures, when he nary agreed with them when he was still a legislator. Wonders never cease is all we can say.

But this story is not about the man’s allegiances but what he is co-signing to. The government instituted a 35% tax on betting companies, that the companies say would make both sponsoring sports teams and making a profit difficult. So in a quick rejoinder to the courts upholding the government’s decree, the betting firm, Sportpesa immediately cancelled all sponsorship deals with teams within the country.

The Bulgarian-owned company has, however, issued a notice to appeal against the High Court’s judgment, saying that the increased tax rate is in breach of Article 201 of the Constitution which demands the public finance system promotes an equitable society where the tax burden shall be shared fairly.

But the bullfighter as he is affectionately referred to by some has come out to defend the government’s actions. He said what Sportpesa was doing was tantamount to blackmail and that Uhuru Kenyatta should not be taken hostage. He made his point in a couple of tweets. He wrote:

He reaffirmed his position later in another tweet writing:

Whatever your opinion on betting and betting companies, this is a delicate matter that should be dealt with sensitively. I believe that there is a middle ground that can be reached if a compromise was to be had.
