Damaris is the first winner of the #SongaNaMili competition

Songa By Safaricom launched the exciting Songa Na Mili competition two weeks ago and today, they awarded their first winner. It was a superb day for Damaris Akinyi who walked away with a cool sh. 76,000/= after she guessed the sound from the song “Sema Milele” by Gilad.

Damaris said she first heard about the Songa Na Mili promo on radio.

“I heard about the competition on my way to work in a matatu on a breakfast show”, she continued

Winning the money has come at the best time because the family needed money to pay school fees for her younger sister.

“I will use some of the money to help my mother pay my sisters school fees who is still in campus.” she said.

One thing Damaris stated is that she loves the Songa By Safaricom app because she plays music to set the mood for her day, especially with the daily playlists. The fact that she loves music and enjoys the app made it easier for her to win the Songa Na Milli competition.

Damaris stated that she will be using some of the money she won at the 30 Billion Concert headlined by Nigerian superstar, Davido who will be gracing the country courtesy of Songa By Safaricom, KCARL Entertainment, KISS FM and Classic 105.

Brian Chege, Songa By Safaricom’s head of content and A&R, stated that they came up with the Songa Na Milli idea as an incentive for the fans of the app.

“The chance to win a million is an incentive for non-users to get on the app and discover new music, our vast variety of music genres, playlists, and for users to further engage the app as we push to retain them.”

Brian confirmed that the competition will go on because as the name suggests, the target is to give away a million shillings.

UtaSONGA na Lucky Dube! ‘Different colours’ still wins over our souls. Here is why

Lucky Dube was one of the most celebrated reggae artiste back in the day.

Just like Bob Marley and Micheal Jackson, Lucky Dube’s music are still hit songs on radio and even in clubs. He gave us the world amazing music.

Lucky Dube lost his life just after dropping his teenage son and daughter off in a Johannesburg suburb when he was attacked by carjackers.

Local radio stations then were flooded with tearful callers expressing outrage at the murder. Alongside Bob Marley, Lucky Dube was thought of as one of the great reggae artists who sang about social problems.

Today being a TBT Thursday, we celebrate great reggae music from our very own reggae hit maker .

You can get his music on the Songa By Safaricom app as we celebrate Lucky Dube this week by dialing *812# or downloading it from the Google App Store.

Tusonge na tano: Songa by Safaricom wants you to know this very important thing

Music streaming service Songa by Safaricom has changed the game as it is the gateway to over two millions of songs at any moment.

This aspect has been made that much more easier with the relaunch of the app with a more affordable rate of Ksh 5 a day that allows you unlimited music downloads that will be streamed in-app. This saves you the hustle of spending more money on bundles.

Songa Music’s general manager Chinasa Udeala told Mpasho.co.ke, “Imagine having to collect and compile hundreds of CD’s on your shelf as used to be the case? Think about arranging all those MP3 files on a flash drive or in your computer, or even worse have those files take up those precious space in your mobile device?

USING A MUSIC STREAMING SERVICE LIKE SONGA BY SAFARICOM MEANS ACCESS TO A VAST CATALOG OF MILLIONS OF SONGS AT ANY ONE MOMENT. HOWEVER, THESE TRACKS ARE STORED ON THE CLOUD AND ALL YOUR ARE REALLY SUBSCRIBING TO IS ACCESS TO THEM.”

Chinasa continued, “Music consumption have shifted from ownership to access – the trend shows that consumers have no need for bulky CDS, Mp3’s on flash disks or computers which may mean loss of your precious files if the storage device is corrupted or if the CD is scratched or damaged. Now your favourite tracks are stored in the cloud in perpetuity for easy access or as long as you have a subscription.

“IT COULD BE SAID THAT THE WORLD IS EXPERIENCING A VERY AFRICAN MOMENT IN MUSIC. WE ARE CONSUMING AND CREATING MORE MUSIC THAN EVER BEFORE. WIZKID IN NIGERIA CAN RELEASE A NEW SONG ONLINE OR IN APP AT 12:00 AND BY 12:05 A KID IN KENYA HAS THE TRACK STREAMING VIA AN APP ON HIS PHONE.”

Chinasa added, “Unlike 20 years ago, armed with a good music video, internet bundles and some simple online marketing strategy an artist in Kenya can reach the African continent and indeed the world with his or her music. Streaming is a disruptive technology just like flash disks where to floppy disks and DVD’S to Online on demand video service, streaming is to MP3 downloads.”

HE CONCLUDED, “STREAMING WILL EVENTUALLY BE THE STANDARD FOR AUDIO AND VIDEO CONSUMPTION ALL OVER THE WORLD. THE DAYS OF CD’S AND MP3 DOWNLOADS ARE ALREADY BECOMING A FADED OUT MEMORY.”

Tunasonga na tano! SONGA by Safaricom just became the most affordable music streaming app

In an effort to open up the Songa by Safaricom platform to all music lovers in Kenya and reach a wider demographic, the app has launched a more affordable subscription plan through the new gold package which effectively reduces the cost of subscription to Ksh 5, a day.

The fans of the music streaming app will be able to access all local, African and selected International content on the Songa music platform.

For the pocket-friendly price, the everyday Kenyan will be able to access over 2 million tracks on the platform, download the tracks and playlists into the app and stream or listen to music without using their phone data.

The beauty of this is that the subscription gives users access to unlimited in-app music download allowing for data free streaming of the content. Users can also create playlists that suit their mood after all the app boasts of a rich music database.

Chinasa Udeala the Songa Music general Manager told us

“SONGA IS DIFFERENT FROM ALL OTHER APPS WITHIN THE KENYAN MUSIC SPACE SIMPLY BECAUSE WE RECOGNIZE THAT MUSIC IS AN EMOTIONAL PRODUCT. HAVING THIS TOP OF MIND WE UNDERSTAND THAT EVERY KENYAN HAS HIS OR HER OWN LOCAL MUSIC HERO OR HERO’S.”

Adding,

“IN KEEPING WITH THIS MINDSET, SONGA HAS NOT ONLY OPENED UP ITS PLATFORM BY WAY OF A MORE AFFORDABLE OF 5 BOB A DAY BUT HAS ALSO DEVELOPED ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES AIMED AT CHAMPIONING, PROMOTING AND SUPPORTING LOCAL KENYAN ARTISTS. THESE ACTIVITIES YOU WILL SEE PUT INTO ACTION IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.”

The decision to reduce the cost was based on the desire to open up the Songa by Safaricom platform to a wider demographic of music lovers in Kenya.

What can make you even more impressed than a sexy, super cool and colorful music app that was developed by Kenyans, just for you? You read that right. The app, which is now everyone’s favorite was made in Kenya. It is of international standards but still has that Kenyan vibe to it; once you download it, you’ll see what I mean. If Nyashinski, one of Kenya’s best artistes of all time can endorse the app, that means that it has the best to offer!

2. It has over 2.5 million songs!

The app has a huge library of song to choose from. That’s a whole lot of tracks! Can you even get bored while you have the app? I highly doubt! With Songa, you can do that! Download the app to see the exciting payment options it has.

4. Celebrities love the app!
