Tight security at Fidel’s public viewing, police boss assures no chaos

The public viewing of Fidel Odinga’s body is ongoing amid tight security at Lee Funeral Home. Cord leader Raila Odinga and other family members viewed the body then left for their home in Karen.

Nairobi Police Commander Benson Kabue, terming the mourners’ security a top priority, said his team will keep guard until the viewing ends. Speaking at a press briefing in Karen, Kabue further warned ODM’s ‘men in black’ against causing any disruptions.

“There will be no traffic inconvenience for Nairobians today during the viewing of Fidel’s body and the requiem mass on Thursday,” he also assured.

Relatives, friends and politicians thronged Raila’s home to offer their condolences on Wednesday morning. The requiem mass will be held at All Saints Cathedral and the burial in Bondo on Saturday.

 

The late senator Otieno Kajwang’s public viewing in Kisumu cancelled

Thousands of Kisumu residents who turned up to view the late Senator Otieno Kajwang’s body at Kisumu Stadium left a disappointed lot after not seeing their late senator.

The funeral organizer’s canceled the viewing scheduled to take place at the stadium after realizing they could not control the rowdy crowds.

The funeral procession then went on its journey to Homa Bay by road. Members of the public came out in numbers to receive the body which had been flown from Nairobi that same morning as they escorted the convoy through the streets of the lakeside town. Burial is set to take place on Friday at the late Senator’s rural home in Waondo village, Mbita.
