Yesterday was TV girl Kanze Dena’s last day at the Maalim Juma based media station.
The multi-talented presenter, who started her journey at KBC and finished at Citizen TV, was recently appointed as the deputy head of the President’s Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU) as well as deputy State House spokesperson by President Kenyatta.
“In this regard, I am pleased to announce that Ms Munira Mohamed, 40, has been appointed to the role of Deputy Head, PSCU, and Head of the Presidential Library.
In addition to taking charge of all broadcast and media production, Ms. Mohamed will lead a team to design and develop the library; develop storylines and themes for both permanent and temporary public exhibitions; carry out research work and collect material relevant to the Presidential Library, Museum and Exhibition Centre.
In this new role, Ms. Mohamed will work closely with the families of our nation’s first three President’s, as well as the State Department of Heritage, to decide on important speeches, papers, books, artworks, artifacts and other materials to preserve and exhibit.
2. As part of diversifying the voices from the Presidency, focusing the concept of messaging with purpose, President Kenyatta has appointed seasoned television news anchor Kanze Dena, 39, as Deputy State House Spokesperson and Deputy Head, PSCU.
Ms. Dena will take leadership of the core communications teams, including digital, messaging, research, branding and press. With expansive newsroom leadership experience, Ms. Dena has been tasked to focus on the President’s brand positioning, media relations and messaging with respect to the delivery of the Big Four agenda.
The President believes the two women leaders will bring diversity, dynamism and infuse new energy into the PSCU whilst improving overall media relations with external stakeholders.
Overall leadership for the Presidential Communications remains with Manoah Esipisu, the State House Spokesperson,” read a statement by PSCU.
Kanze Dena, who is a role model to many, is known for her mastery of the Swahili language and we will indeed miss her on our screens. Dena and her co-host Lulu Hassan brighten our living rooms while presenting news and their Nipashe Wikendi segment, where they invited relationship expert Bi Msafiri to talk about issues affecting marriage, educated us.
Well, last night Kanze Dena bid farewell to her supporters for being there for her for the last 15 years as a TV presenter.
“Nashukuru Mungu kwa miaka hiyo kumi na tano amabyo nimeweza kukuletea taarifa za habari mtazamaji.
Ningependa kuwashukuru watu ambao wamesismama nami katika taarifa hii,” she said after presenting her last news on Cirtizen TV.
Kanze went ahead to thank the Managing Director of Royal Media Services Wachira Waruru for holding her hand in the media industry.
“Hii talanta nilipoianza nikiwa KBC nilikuwa na mkurugenzi wachira Waruru. Amenishika mkono siku zote hizo mpaka leo,” she added.
Just after she was done giving her speech, Kanze Dena was surprised live on air by workmates from RMS. Gospel singer Mercy Masika led a section of employees of the top media house in song and dance as they made their way to the studio where Kanze and Lulu Hassan were seated.
The mother of one could not hide her joy and she broke into tears.
Kanze took this time to advice Kenyans, urging them to be faithful.
“Ukiwa mwaminifu kwa Mungu naye anakuwa mwaminifu kwako. Anakushika mkono unatembea naye. Wakati ameaanda mpango juu ya maisha yako, mpango huo atautekeleza ikiwa utamruhusu na kutembea naye.
Nimoeona uaminifu wa Mungu kuotka nilipoanza utangazaji wangu mpaka leo hadi kule ninakokwenda najua ni mkono wa Mungu.”
Lulu Hassan wrote a heartwarming letter to Kanze Dena wishing her all the best in her endeavors and she described her co-host as her best friend and prayer warrior.
“WHAT PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU IS THAT YOU ARE A PRAYER WARRIOR AND THAT YOU HARDLY DO ANYTHING WITHOUT TELLING ME ‘LULU ACHA NIOMBEE HILI JAMBO’..AND YOU HAD THOSE INSTINCTS LIKE…’ROHO YANGU HAITAKI HUYU RAFIKI YAKO..THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PERSON WISH I HAD LISTENED EARLIER ON BUT BLIMEY SHOCK ON ME (STORY FOR ANOTHER DAY). I REMEMBER WHEN WE WERE ALL BEING POACHED FROM OUR RESPECTIVE COMPANIES TO JOIN ANOTHER WHICH WAS OFFERING SOME LOFTY AMOUNT, WE WERE ENTICED TO SAY THE LEAST BUT BOOM! IN YOUR TYPICAL KIND OF WAY YOU SAID ‘’MAMAA DON’T SIGN LET ME GO PRAY FOR THIS LETTER AND BY MORNING I WILL TELL YOU THE WAY FORWARD…AND TRUE TO YOUR WORDS YOU DROPPED THE BOMBSHELL ‘MUNGU AMEKATAA LULU’ …AND SLOWLY WE WENT BACK TO OUR RESPECTIVE COMPANIES BACK IN 2013,” read part of Lulu’s letter.
