Peter Okoye the former member of P square has bagged an honorary doctorate degree from Escae-Benin University, Benin Republic.
The 39-year-old Nigerian singer-songwriter was awarded the doctorate degree for his contribution in music and dance in the entertainment industry.
Taking to social media, Peter expressed his gratitude.
“Dear Team P! It’s a great honor to be decorated by a distinguished educational institution, who have recognized my contribution to dance and music as well as my support for the youth in the entertainment industry. Thanks, you @escaeakpakpacampus @escaeunibenin for this honor.
“- Dr (Hon) Peter Obumneme Okoye Aka Dr Mr P,” he tweeted.
This comes barely a week after he went on record taking a swipe at his fierce critics who thought he would disappear and never amount to anything following his split from his twin brother, Paul and their group.
He wrote on Facebook;
“Team P! What were they thinking? That I wasn’t going to survive alone? They just can’t stand the fact that I am richer now and doing well for myself. Pained! And this post is for them and them alone! Just watch them referring this post to my family as usual! Odes! Watch them start preaching!” he wrote.
“Like I said! Haters pls comment and identify yourself on this post and my management will separate you out from my true fans. The Blocking also includes the people that liked and support the comment!” he said.
He urged those who do not like him to unfollow him.
“You must not like my doings! So, Feel free to unfollow and unlike this my page! Or better still identify yourself so we can Block you! Have a very good morning!
Africa’s most successful musical group, P-Square, which comprises of twins Peter and Paul Okoye have found ways to divert the wealth they attained from music into other lucrative ventures, such as transport business.
The duo has interests that span real estate, media and from recent findings, transportation.
According to a source in Uber, the duo has over 35 vehicles plying the streets of Lagos to aid the transportation needs of Africa’s busiest and most populous city.
Going by calculations, an Uber driver can make N100,000 on average each week. With 35 cars on the beat, this means the Okoye’s are grossing approximately N182 million per year from the transport arm of their businesses alone. This is one of the reasons they can still be named as some of the richest musicians on the continent.
Bongo star, Diamond Platnumz is not slowing down any time soon when it comes to releasing new music every now and then, and his fans cannot get enough of him.
The Best International Act (Africa) BET nominee is one of the most sought after artists from East Africa and there is no doubt that he’s currently at the peak of his career, with the recent revelation that he’s worth a whopping $4 Million (KSh. 4 billion).
This time round, he decided to go to Nigeria and work on one of the hottest collabos this year, with pop duo P-Square, and they have dropped a new song dubbed ‘Kidogo’, which is already taking the airwaves by storm.
Diamond, real name, Naseeb Abdul Juma debuted the song on 12th July. Kidogo was produced by a Tanzanian producer Shirko, while the music video was shot in Johannesburg, South Africa and directed by Godfather productions.
P-Square is a veteran group, one of the biggest in Africa and although the Okoye brothers were on the verge of breaking up and starting individual careers, it seems that they put their quarrels aside to shoot this video with Diamond Platnumz.
Well, check out the new Pan-African video Kidogo, by Diamond Platnumz, feat P-Square which is already getting a lot of buzz. Is it a miss or a hit?
P-square is undoubtedly one of the biggest African boy bands, but sadly, we may not be seeing the twin brothers on the same stage anymore.
This comes after Peter Okoye, the lead singer in the boy band, posted contacts of his new management on his Instagram page, and added the name Mr P on his bio section, which looks like he might be going on a solo career this time. This is what he captioned the studio pic;
Work Mood ?? Thanks for all the love, support and concern pls continue to remain blessed as always. For bookings and enquiries, please contact my new management on ?08037531340 ✉ [email protected] ||[email protected] #MrP ??
Peter released a single last week, titled ‘Look Into My Eyes’, his first solo project since forming P-square with his brother, Paul. He also performed alone in a recent event in Abuja, which sparked the break up rumors.
The group has been marred by break up rumors after Peter recently went on a twitter rant to push for their then manager and elder brother, Jude Okoye, to be fired as manager of P-square.
Jude has been managing P-Square for more than a decade, despite repeated calls for his resignation by Peter following a suspected family rift and allegations that he was not taking charge of the group.
Neither Jude nor twin brother, Paul has commented on the announcement made by Peter. Check out the photo on Peter’s social media, informing his fans that he has a new management and contact details.
