Kenyans offer James Smart podcasting ideas after announcing new job at NMG

Seasoned Journalist James Smart has landed his dream job at NMG, his former employer.

Taking to Twitter to announce his latest move, Mr Smart said he was happy to be back home.

James Smart was hit with a flood of types of podcasting ideas he should give Kenyans and he expressed his gratitude for the suggestions to every comment.

Responding to criticism from Robert Alai about venturing into podcasting, James Smart quickly pointed out that

Thank you ndugu Robert, other NMG’s offerings continue, this does not stop but supplements.

Journalist Wallace Kantai praised Smart

Now at last NMG is making the right moves.
@jamessmat
will drive their podcasting efforts and is exactly the right guy. I’m in a longstanding argument with
@LabanCliff about whose was the first NMG podcast. His was in 2017. Mine was in 2015, which I edited myself and whose Soundcloud account I paid for from my own pocket. @jamessmat kuja urevive show.

Charles Wafula..
Well on Ndugu. Adds another feather to your cap of trailblazing.

Are there particular topics you’ll be focussing on ama it’s all for all?
Omore C. Osendo..
Congratulations bro. NMG got a good catch. Wish you the best and I hope they give you space and room to innovate. I subscribe to The Telegraph podcast and would be happy to subscribe to a local one for a credible media house like NMG.

‘We stood with you in your lowest time, stand with us’ Kenyans tell Uhuru over covid funds expose

On the Monday morning conversation, the topic was on the minds of many Kenyans after watching NTV expose on the misuse of Covid-19 funds.

The investigative piece by Dennis Okari showed how some Kenyans are making money from covid 19, while the disease continues to ravage the country. The profiteering from KEMSA and the Ministry of Health is incredible to say the least.

Maina called on Kenyans to speak openly to Uhuru Kenyatta.

We are addressing one person and one person alone.

Talk to Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. After what we saw on Tv yesterday you know as I watched it, and thank you Dennis Okari and the entire TV crew, the one thing that I kept thinking about was for how long are we going to keep listening to nonsense and nothing is done about it. There you are struggling complying with the law, paying the taxes, then there are people who walked into KEMSA and walked out with grossly inflated tenders? For how long? We are going to make Uhuru Kenyatta act, we have to, we can’t go on like this, we lose a third of our GDP to corruption, do you know what a trillion shillings is? What the hell, oh he’s gonna listen whether he acts or not that is his decision, but we shall make it known, the hashtag is Dear MR President, and just give him a message,

These messages will get to him, what he chooses to ignore or acts upon what you are feeling that is his choice now, but talk to him we must. #DearMrPresident.

I felt so defiled it was crazy what I watched on NTV. Now let’s talk to the President, whether he chooses to act or not that’s his decision.

Caller: I’m talking to the one who took covid funds, your kids will pay, its painful, people are not going to work, instead of you helping you are eating Kenyans money, huyo mtu he doesn’t have a heart, Maina what is happening? I’m so mad right now

Caller: Dear MR President the big fishes are outside there stealing and nothing is being done, nothing is happening just because the big ones have not humbled your self, you are going to be responsible

Money
Money

Caller: It’s very sad that some of these things happen in our country sometimes you wonder where the leadership is. They are out of touch with what we are going through. Choices do have consequences.

Caller: Dear President, we are really tired, punda imechoka na hii serikali yako ya ufisadi, people are suffering my friend, and what is going on at KEMSA, people should not tell you they don’t know where the funds went, everyone has to be held accountable and the buck stops with you

I have lost my dad & job in two weeks! Fired NTV reporter narrates

The recent retrenchments in the media industry have become so common that most Kenyans might have become jaded at hearing the news-the same way the daily news about Covid-19 is being treated.

While I understand the reason why, I believe that this terrible example of a horrible economy shouldn’t become part and parcel of life for everyday Kenyans. People are suffering! But I digress.

This article is about a fellow colleague in the industry who is going through the wringer at the moment. Award-winning Journalist Sharon Barang’a recently disclosed that not only was she fired by her employer NTV Kenya but that she had also lost her dad in the span of two weeks.

The journalist shared the sad news on her Twitter page writing, “I have lost my dad & job in one month…it is well. I am hanging in there. Thank you all for the calls, msgs & prayers,” reads Sharon Barang’a’s tweet.

Many Kenyans commiserated with her plight and tried to lift her spirits. Some of the comments are below:

Yvonne Okwara-Matole God’s grace to you..

Lindah Oguttu May God give you grace Sharon, and set out a new path for you.

Eugene Anangwe Pole sana for the loss. Praying for more strength and God’s intervention 🙏🏽

Sharon like her former retrenched colleague Ken Mijungu was highly in the industry having won the ICFJ’s Early Childhood Development Reporting Contest in 2016.

Sadly for Sharon this wave of lay-offs has happened at a time when the global economic forecast remains gloomy due to the Covid-19 pandemic that has caused many businesses to shut down or cull employees.

NTV, the Aga Khan owned media station retrenched at least 8 top journalists. Those fired include; Ken Mijungu, Brenda Wanga, Debarl Inea, Sharon Baranga, Shaban Ulaya, Harith Salim, Lillian, Silas Apollo among others.

Reports indicate that 175 employees have been shown the door as NMG blamed the measure on the ongoing global economic crisis.

‘One Song Made Them Think I’m Trash,’ Jimmy Gait Weeps Uncontrollably On Live TV, Claims Kenyans Are Ungrateful

Popular gospel singer Jimmy Gait was last night’s guest on The Trend where he spoke about his latest single dubbed ‘Love’, the local entertainment industry among other things.

During the interview, the musician who rose to fame after releasing a single titled ‘Huratete’ in 2011, was asked how he feels about being trolled by Kenyans for his funny song titles.

Gait nearly came to tears while explaining to Anita Nderu, who was sitting in for Larry, that the latest incident made him feel like he is trash.

The award-winning gospel musician said he didn’t anticipate the negative reactions that he received from Kenyans after debuting ‘Yesu Ndiye Sponsor’.

He said his songs are about real life situations from a Christian’s perspective, adding that he was shocked by the reactions that he got from netizens the next morning.

“I WOKE UP IN THE MORNING AND I WAS TRENDING LIKE I HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE. TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH, I WAS GOING THROUGH THE TIMELINE AND I’M LIKE JESUS WHAT’S THIS AND IT WAS SO DIFFICULT FOR ME,” GAIT SAID.

He went on to add that he more startled that Kenyans had forgotten all the good songs that he has done for them and were now insulting him and saying all sorts of things about him.

Gait told Anita that he really felt bad because he’s also a human being who has emotions while trying to fight back tears from his eyes.
