Ministry of Tourism made the right choice in choosing Naomi Campbell and not Lupita

Naomi Campbell has been the subject of controversy since the announcement yesterday that she would become the international brand ambassador for Kenyan tourism.

The supermodel who at one time was arguably the most well-known model black (or any other race on the planet) has caused a lot of hullabaloo as some Kenyans believe that she was the wrong choice for the gig.

Even the venerable nominated MP, Millicent Omanga chimed in on Twitter calling Naomi a tired model in her rant and advocating for our very own Lupita Nyong’o. Her caption is below;

Ministry of Tourism taps Naomi Campbell, a tired model who has lost her mojo to be the Magical Kenya international Brand Ambassador and is to market Kenya as a tourism and travel destination. Why not @Lupita_Nyongo or one of our daughters of international repute? Lol.

Her sentiment was backed by a few Kenyans in the comment section who felt that Lupita might have been the superior choice for the role.

But on this one, I think that the Kenyan government got it right. Yes, even a broken clock is normally right twice a day! Why? My reasons are below:

Firstly, As a British citizen, Naomi loves our country as compiled in the numerous visits she has made to the country. Unlike other celebs, she has made a habit of not hiding her stays in the country like most other international celebs.

That type of comfort shows someone who sees the country as a second home. So her advertising the country will come very easily to her. A great brand ambassador should be someone who loves the product they are pushing.

Secondly, I believe the co-sign of Naomi by becoming a brand ambassador of a 3rd-world tourist destination will most likely convince those who would have seen partisanship in the choice of Lupita and not bought into her marketing.

Thirdly, Lupita strikes me as someone who isn’t overly interested in marketing her country. I might be wrong but I think that she wants to come home only to privately visit family and not have to work. To prove this, just ask yourself how many times she has been seen in the country since her Oscar win in 2014?

And that isn’t a diss on her, let people do what they feel comfortable doing, something I believe Naomi will do excellently in promoting Kenya to international tourists.

But I could be wrong…

Supermodel Naomi Campbell ends 4-month fling with ‘boring’ Liam Payne

Naomi Campbell has reportedly ended her rumored four-month whirlwind romance with Liam Payne.

The supermodel, 48, is claimed to have got ‘bored’ of the Bedroom Floor hitmaker, 25, and decided to let things ‘fizzle out’.

However, Naomi and Liam are reportedly going to ‘stay friends’ and that there are ‘no hard feelings’ between the pair.

A source told The Mirror:

Liam and Naomi had a lot of fun together, they got on well and had a laugh. But it just wasn’t meant to be. They are going to stay friends – there are no hard feelings with either of them.

Meanwhile, another source told The Sun that the supermodel was ‘bored’ of the Strip That Down hitmaker.

Naomi has taken the decision to let things fizzle out. She’s just not into Liam anymore and has cast him aside. Quite simply she got a bit bored,‘ they told the publication.

He was always the more keen, slightly needy one and, as far as she was concerned, they were never officially an item anyway. It’s always been very casual.

Speculation of a blossoming romance between the two began when they celebrated the New Year together in Ghana.

Since then the duo were reported to have been having a ‘mind-blowing’ time together in London and New York, commenting on each other’s social media posts with flirty exchanges.

Naomi Campbell excites Kenyans with news of magazine photo shoot in Kenya

Renowned British supermodel, actress and singer Naomi Campbell is in Malindi, Kilifi county, for a working holiday.

Campbell, 48, arrived on Friday and is reportedly doing photo shoots for an international magazine.

The supermodel, who is the former girlfriend of Italian billionaire Flavio Briatore, is with a team of over 13 other people who are doing the shooting.

Since she arrived, Naomi has been keeping a low profile, concentrating on the photo shoot.

The supermodel is staying at Lion in the Sun beach resort owned by the Italian billionaire.

Reports indicate that she has been to Sabaki River Mouth and Che Shale.

Journalists have not been able to meet her, after the management said she did not want to give an interview or be photographed.

However, her visit is a major boost to the tourism sector, which has lately been plagued by the abduction last Tuesday of Italian aid worker Silvia Romano in Chakama, Kilifi county.

Five people were also shot and sustained serious injuries but are currently out of danger.

Tourism players in Malindi are not worried about the incident, despite the cancellations it has caused.

Recruited at the age of 15, Naomi established herself amongst the most recognisable and in-demand models of the late 1980s and the 90s.

She was one of six models of her generation declared supermodels by the fashion industry and the international press.
