A 23-year-old student of Moi University, Eldoret allegedly received death threats from Mt Elgon MP John Serut after accusing his CDF office of unfairly distributing funds to university students.
Martin Ndiwa said on Tuesday that Serut called and sent him messages at odd hours saying he can have his head for Sh100,000 “only”.
Ndiwa reportedly claimed on a social media page called ‘Sabaots online’ that Serut, in the allocation of the funds, favours some areas over others.
“I now totally fear for my life since I was threatened by my area Member of Parliament that he will send his men to come and crush me and take my head to his house or he was going to use my fellow colleagues to attack me at night,” he told a journalist in Bungoma.
The MP allegedly issued the threats in a telephone conversation with the student.
“Can you continue posting now if you are man enough. I’ll just blast you before the people. And if you think by talking I will give you bursary, there is no bursary,” different segments of the recording say.
“The legislature further said that maybe I should stay at Moi university till Satan comes or else he will get me,’’ the third year Actuarial Science student said.
Ndiwa said he is still being threatened despite reporting the matter to the police.
“I reported my case to Kesses police post, OB No. 10/18/09/2014 but no action was taken. I forwarded the case to the office of DPP North rift and DCIO Uasin Gishu but so far no action has been taken,” he said.
He urged Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko to intervene before it is too late.
