Gospel singer mercy Masika and her hubby David Muguro are celebrating their 13th marriage anniversary. The parents to three kids have been working together for years as Muguro is the manager to the gospel singer.
In a message on social media the ‘Nikupendeze’ hitmaker described her husband as a man of wisdom;
”Happy 13th anniversary to us. I consider myself blessed to do life with you Han.
Your love has moulded me and kept me strong. I truly would still marry you again if there was a next lifetime because you have loved wisdom.
Thanks for 13 amazing years.”
Her husband adviced single people to make the rigt choice like he did by marrying the perfect person for them;
”Because living is amongst men, in this human domain this is my ode to my wife. To the married keep growing and working it, to the singles, make it your duty to learn to be the best you can be to your partner.”
Mercy has been in the music industry for over a decade.
Looking at her, one would never imagine that Gospel singer Mercy Masika was almost done with her music career even before it started.
Mercy in an interview with Churchill on NTV, told that after multiple unsuccessful tries, decided she was done with music. This was back when she had nothing to show for her multiple attempts.
She told Churchill that ‘I had almost given up on music, unakaanga lakini hauko. I would get paid a ka five k coz people didn’t know me. It’s so discouraging and that time I was with Eunice Njeri, we would call it slow puncture. Kaberere came and encouraged me, I even went for counselling, so when I had almost given up that’s when Kaberere came then he passed on.’
Fans watching the show were shocked and surprised never imagining the hardship she went through and many went on to be encouraged by her message.
Mercy told Churchill that her music career began vey early in life and the challenges that came with it included not being paid enough. She was so little that she resorted to hawking CD’s of her music but didn’t earn much from it. This built her frustration. ‘Before meeting my husband, musically I used to sell CD’s for sh100. I was always broke so when David came along there was more clarity.’
But she said pushed on saying never giving up paid off thanks to meeting the man who would become her husband and music manager to build her career.
Mercy gushed to Churchill about her strong husband and how she prayed to God for a serious husband.
‘I remember asking God I need more purpose. We met in a wedding, I was singing and he was doing camera work and told me I would sing at his wedding and he looked serious. He would send me daily devotional messages. Later I went to Katoleni for prayers for a husband.’
But what many might not know is that before Mercy’s biggest hit she had been working in the industry from a young age and that her hit wasn’t a fluke but due to consistent hard work.
The Shule Yako singer reminded fans of how far back she had come from when she posted an old photo of herself on the vintage cassette album.
And that wasn’t even the most interesting thing about her, she was also rocking a fro on her head! “This was me in 6th grade and this was my second album(cassette). I did not come here to play. One of the songs in this album was titled “I came on business for the King”. I am grateful.”
Many fans were left impressed and surprised by her TBT celebrating the musician who celebrated 13 years of marriage to her husband David Muguro.
Even in marriage, Mercy shows us the value of persistence. Just last month, the mother of two revealed that the first stages in marriage were hell.
Speaking on the Bun in the Oven show on Picha Clear YouTube channel, Mercy said that the couple used to have arguments daily over anything. “I think when people get married at first differences are for real,” she said.
After finding out she was pregnant, she did two pregnancy tests, which all turned out positive. “I don’t know if I was excited because I was mad at that time and I walked into the sitting room and told David I am pregnant. He actually became a nice person all of a sudden,” Mercy remembered.
Her pastor husband narrated how they were financially unstable at that time and he had lost his job just before they got married. When Masika broke the news to him, he was still jobless. “I wanted a child but I didn’t know when. So when she told me she was pregnant, I found myself in a confusing state. My question was, why would she get pregnant at this time when she knew of our situation?” David narrated.
Gospel singer Mercy Masika took to Instagram to share an honest glimpse at her experience with acne, an effect of her ‘kitchen”
When I got to 3rd floor I had serious painful Acne. It bothered me so so much because not only were the pimples painful , they were ugly. I’d be on tv and people kept advising. Visited so many skin care experts but the painful pimples didn’t go.
Acne is a common skin condition affecting many women between their teen years up to their thirties yet sadly for other women the challenge persists throughout their lives.
Mercy spoke of how her outbreaks affected her and she attempted to remedy her skin every way she was advised – including spending so much money.
She began doing her own research which led her to her kitchen ingredients.
Well I prayed and fasted and I was honestly led to take lemon and water after all the trouble I’d been through, after all the money I’d spent and after a month I had only scars and totally healed. The solution was in my kitchen.
She offered a message of hope to those dealing with unresolved skin issues.
I WANT TO SAY GOD CARES ABOUT THE SMALLEST THINGS.And he will lead you to make the right decisions if you call on him
Another star who has been open about her skin condition has been Avril, who frequently shows her skin in revealing Instagram pictures to encourage girls.
They had to repeat classes for staying away from school. “I hear people saying they have never gone hungry and I wonder because to us it was a norm. Going to bed without food, it was normal. In school, my deskmate used to give me some, and I made sure I was friends with the cooks. I think I should do a documentary about my life,” she said.
Somehow one of her worship leaders paid her school fees and that is how she managed.
Evelyn and Eunice Njeri have a new song titled ‘Worthy’.
“We are the foundation of building a great Africa,” she said hoping to inspire someone with the song.
THAT EVENING I REMEMBER I TOLD HER I DON’T WANT TO BE IN THE PUBLIC AT ALL BUT THEN GOD DOES THINGS IN HIS OWN WAY.
After a year and a half, the couple then got married. Masika said,
MY PARENTS KEPT TELLING ME I SHOULD GET MARRIED WITHIN ONE YEAR IF I MET SOMEONE. IN SIX MONTHS YOU SHOULD BE DONE IF YOU’RE SURE BECAUSE TAKING TIME IS NOT GOOD FOR CHRISTIANS.
Her husband echoed her remarks saying,
HOWEVER LONG YOU TAKE [TO GET MARRIED] THERE’S NOTHING NEW YOU’RE GOING TO LEARN ABOUT THIS PERSON.
Talking about their vision, Mercy said,
OUR VISION WAS TO GET MARRIED, HAVE KIDS AND SERVE GOD.
THE BEST THING ABOUT MARRIAGE IS WHEN YOU’RE ABLE TO WORK TOGETHER IN PURPOSE, WHERE YOU SEEK GOD TOGETHER.
Married for nine years now, the couple is blessed with two kids. Mercy revealed her take on why marriages never last long.
A LOT OF MARIAGES FAIL WHEN YOU ARE DOING TOTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS. BECAUSE IF YOU’RE IN EAST AND YOUR PARTNER IS IN WEST BOTH OF YOU MEET A LOT OF PEOPLE. I THINK IT’S GOOD TO WORK TOGETHER. WE’RE THE BEST OF FRIENDS BECAUSE WE GO THROUGH THE UPS AND DOWNS TOGETHER.
They walked down the aisle a few years ago and Mercy said;
THE VOWS, I WAS A BIT NUMB. I WAS SHAKING. I USED TO SAY I’LL NEVER CRY … WATU WANALIANGA NINI… CAN’T YOU CONTAIN YOURSELF? I CRIED THE WHOLE TIME. I DON’T KNOW WHY I DID. I CAN’T TELL. I THINK IT IS SPIRITUAL.
Their marriage hasn’t been rosy and they’ve gone through up and downs.
OUR FIRST FIGHTS I DON’T REMEMBER BUT I RECALL THERE’S A TIME I PACKED AND I WAS GOING HOME AND THEN HE CAME AND TALKED TO ME.
BUT WHAT REALLY SHOCKED ME WAS NOW WE’RE MARRIED, I HAVE TO COOK, WHILE HE IS WATCHING TV. I WAS LIKE ‘AAIH IT’S TOO MUCH’ HE WANTS TO BE A KING. IT WAS VERY CHALLENGING FOR ME.
The Nikupendeze hitmaker was forced to undergo mentorship classes
I HAD PACKED THREE TIMES AND AFTER MENTORSHIP CLASS WITH REV KATHY KIUNA THAT’S WHEN I SETTLED.
I DIDN’T UNDERSTAND SUBMISSION, I WAS DEPRESSED ABOUT IT. FUNNY ENOUGH I WAS IN CHURCH AND DIDN’T FOLLOW WHAT SUBMISSION WAS AND WE WERE BEING TAUGHT WHAT TO DO. I WOULD SPEAK UP HOW I THINK WITH NO EDITING SO IT WAS CHALLENGING.
Things were tough during their first days of marriage.
DIDN’T WANT TO GET ANGRIER. WE HAD A BIG ISSUE BECAUSE I WOULD ARGUE WITH HER. I WOULD GET ANGRY BUT DIDN’T WANT TO GET ANGRIER BECAUSE I HAD VOWED TO GOD THAT I NEVER RAISE A FINGER TOWARDS MY WIFE. SO I WOULD STOP AND ASSUME IT NEVER HAPPENED WHICH I LEARNT LATER WAS SUICIDE – SLOW PUNCTURE. IF I HAD CONTINUED WITH THAT IT WOULD HAVE ERUPTED IN ON WAY OR ANOTHER I THANK GOD FOR BEING IN CHRIST BECAUSE WHEN SHE WENT FOR COUNSELING SHE ACTUALLY HELPED ME UNDERSTAND WHAT IT WAS.
The mother of two since then learnt to be submissive and life has been great.
SUBMISSION DOESN’T MAKE YOU LESS. I’VE ALSO LEARNT THAT I DON’T HAVE TO WIN EVERY BATTLE. WHEN THINGS BECOME WORSE I JUST PRAY AND IT WORKS MY WAY. MY FAITH HAS GROWN. I SEE THINGS WORK MORE WITH PRAYER AND BELIEVE IN GOD. IT [PRAYER] MAY TAKE TIME BUT I’VE SEEN GOD WORK THROUGH PRAYER.

Gospel singer Mercy Masika is a worship leader at the Jubilee Christian Church, a song writer, composer and a recording and performing artiste. Her music is totally derived from the word of God and inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Known for her hit song Nikupendeze, Mercy is known in giving spiritual advices to her fans through her Facebook page and encouraging them that God is always there to help them and with Him everything is possible.
She shares spiritual words with her fans to keep them going each day that passes and enriches them spiritually.
Here is what she said:
“When God has selected you, it doesn’t matter who has rejected or neglected you. God’s favor outweighs all opposition. Trust God to bring you to victory. It may feel too late, desperate and too damaged but Jesus is the resurrection and the life. He gives life and He is life. Your future does not look anything like your past. God has commanded your days to shine brighter and brighter unto a perfect dawn. Embrace that promise!” She said.
Mery also added that, “God’s promises prove His character. They are assured by His word of truth and by the fact that God cannot lie. When He promises, it is as good as done. No storm is too strong. No valley is too dark. No battle is too hard with God on your side. We prevail not by our own effort and wit but by the strength of God working through us. Surrender your work to God: He wants to magnify your footsteps. We call out to God because His faithfulness and mercies endures forever. Keep your head high no matter what happens. You’ll be alright. If the moments hurts, do not fall victim to its pain. Look ahead, focus on your dreams and the future. You will make it.”
