Lupita Nyong’o to play South African comedian Trevor Noahs mother in film adaptation of his book ‘Born a Crime’

We all love our South African comedian, television and radio host and actor Trevor Noah and we are excited and looking forward to see his upcoming film ‘Born a Crime’ that will be on screen soon.

Born a crime is an adaption of Trevor’s bestselling autobiography. The movie will basically feature what his Southern African childhood was during the apartheid era.

My mom is a powerful woman who could easily be one of the beautiful soldiers in Wakanda. So it’s beyond a perfect fit that she would be portrayed on the big screen by the radiant and regal Lupita Nyong’o. I’m beyond excited,” says Trevor.

This Video Could Be Solid Proof That Lupita Nyong’o Is Falling In Love With Co-Star

Our girl Lupita Nyong’o is currently riding high with her latest role in Black Panther. It’s smashed world Box Office records and is still making big bucks.

The movie has also set the bar in regards to the pay scale as far as colored actors are concerned.

One thing to note, however, is media reports that the Oscar award-winning actress is heavily crushing on the villain of the film in real life. The man is non other than hunk Michael B Jordan.

In a recent Instagram post, Lupita is seen all touchy and huggy with the actor. It all speaks for itself.

@michaelbjordan, losing with a smile. On call push-ups!!!

A post shared by Lupita Nyong'o (@lupitanyongo) on

When it comes to dating, the actress tends to keep a low profile. By the way, not many can name the men that she has gone out with. Is this a good thing? Is it guarding her from being judged just like Taylor Swift? Will she end up marrying an American star or she will come back to Kisumu in search of a man to settle down with? Only time will tell.

You led us into the land of Wakanda without ego, without pretense, without fear. We reap the benefits now squarely because of your courage, your fierce dedication, your intense passion, and your grueling workout regimen. The cast of the film has been doing trips around the world promoting the film, with the most recent being a stopover in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Before the original film launch in UK, Marvel Studios reached out to a Kenyan creative to create exclusive concept art.

Kenyan Raised Former Model Iman Shines At The Black Panther Premiere In NYC

US media Complex outlet did a feature on Macharia, revealing how the project came about.

‘Prior to the launch of Black Panther in London, Kenyan photographer Osborne Macharia was commissioned by Marvel to create an “exclusive art piece” in conjunction with the film. Macharia created a project titled Ilgelunot, which translated in the Maasai language means “The Chosen One.”‘

Macharia with Atlanta based photographer Zack Arias.

The feature also delved into the idea behind the creation:

“The project tells the story of three elders who were saved by T’Chaka during World War II after attempting to seek shelter while venturing across North Africa. The two men and one woman were exposed to Vibranium, which gave them supernatural powers, but left them blind. The elders eventually became the Black Panther’s most trusted advisors.”

Hol’ UP: KOT savagely attack Lupita Nyongo for saying she has never acted with ‘so many black people before’

The first black superhero movie, Black Panther, is setting several box office records this past weekend, after premiering across the world.

The cast has been making several appearances and among them was Lupita Nyongo who was in South Africa for a promo screening. She was joined by her father Kisumu governor Anyang Nyongo, who has written an opinion piece about the movie.

Lupita has revealed in an interview on the New York Times how she has never acted with such a large cast of black actors and actresses.

In the interview she is quoted as saying: “I had never been on a set with so many black people before and we were all so focused and I could feel a vibration in the air.”

She goes on to say, ’I’m even more excited about the celebration of pan-Africanism, because this movie is really about a contemporary Africa relating very intimately with a contemporary America via the characters of Black Panther and Killmonger. We’re talking about some really deep issues that we don’t often voice but we all feel.

“A moment when I really felt a vibration was when we were shooting [the waterfall scene]. There were hundreds of extras and we were all in these traditional clothes and there were all the tribal colors and drumming, and between takes, the drummers started riffing to [Snoop Dogg’s] “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” The whole crowd started to go [sings the melody] and we were all dancing as Ryan figured things out below.”

In that moment, I was like, “This is big.” I had never been on a set with so many black people before and we were all so focused and I could feel a vibration in the air. We all felt so privileged to have an opportunity to be a part of this moment in history.

This interview has not gone down well with Kenyan fans who have taken to twitter to express disappointment with her remarks.

Just read the comments below, and also leave your comments as well. Are KOT justified in attacking her for her remarks?
Rachel “hey auntie” Gichinga‏…Lupita grew up in a majority black country, acting with black casts and performing to black audiences. She did Queen of Katwe, shot in Uganda. There’s so much she could have said to enrich this conversation.

Troy Onyango‏..It’s actually possible that the statement is true. I mean, the production scale alone of Black Panther, I imagine, is bigger than all of Shuga combined. If you count everyone there, you could have more black people than she has, truly, ever worked with.

Desmond Bagaka‏…I think I understand her sentiments. When on set, the whites domineer you so much you feel like an outsider. Queen of Katwe was shot at home, she’s talking about her experiences out there

Noel Amoit‏…She is aiming to be or relate to African Americans now and she needs a moving back story. Kenyans and your Shugas, sorry it never happened

#MuthoniDrummerQueen‏…Yo! I have so many feelings. It makes no sense. Its terrible. It’s such a wasted opportunity.

lupita and black panther crew in seoul

Betty Waitherero..I mentioned once on FB that Lupita doesn’t have a back story so invented one. Si I was lynched. Wololo. But see. I was right. Tea time!

Protas Nyabuti‏..Maybe she was colour blind when she was acting Shuga…

Biko Opondo..Context. It’s rather obvious to have majority black cast in a wholly Kenyan flick like Shuga or a movie with Ugandan setting like Katwe. Both don’t apply to BP’s context or generally her post-Shuga Hollywood experience, hence the statement. My two cents.

Lupita Nyong’o’ wore a tight tangerine dress during Black Panther promo in South Africa

She’s been trotting the globe to promote her new film Black Panther.

And starlet Lupita Nyong’o looked stunning as ever while sporting a skin-tight orange dress on Saturday in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Mexico-city born actress, 34, struck a pose with her equally lovely co-star Danai Gurira, who donned an off-the-shoulder black and white dress.

Lupita’s stunning Narciso Rodriguez dress fit like a glove, even offering a peek of her taut tummy with a flirt cut-out atop her abs.

The Academy Award winner styled her hair into a short ponytail while masking her eyes with chocolate brown cat-eyed shades.

The Star Wars voice actress smiled as she leaned on co-star Danai, who turned heads in a monochrome Edun frock featuring a leaf design.

Her dress added a splash of color with thin red straps and a matching pair of sculptural heels on foot.

The Walking Dead star’s hair was shaved short with an elegant design on her temple.

She accessorized with white sunglasses and bold gold earrings.

Lupita captioned the photos: ‘Here for the Movie-ment!’ adding the hashtags ‘#BlackPantherShowingOut’ and ‘#WakandaForever.’

Though the film has yet to even finish its opening weekend, the Marvel is already set to shatter box offices record.

FASHION: Lupita Nyong’o among celebrities who wore their best African look to the premier of Black Panther (Photos)

If you weren’t already excited for Black Panther, the latest Marvel film, you’ll be counting down the days until it hits theaters February 16 after taking a look at Monday night’s Los Angeles premiere purple carpet.

The theme of the night was ‘royal attire’ and the many celebrities in attendance looked the part from head to toe.

Stars like Lupita Nyong’o, Yara Shahidi and Janelle Monae celebrated African culture in statement make-up and opulent hair accessories that complemented colorful gowns.

Lupita Nyong’o, who plays the spy Nakia in the film, always serves up head-turning red carpet beauty looks, but this might be one of her most memorable yet.

‘I wanted Lupita’s make-up to feel glamorous and fierce’, said her make-up artist Nick Barose. ‘With a high neckline and a lot of face-framing embellishment, it’s important to draw attention to the eyes and lips.’

The pro achieved this by creating a smudgy black smoky eye using Lancôme Ombre Hypnôse Stylo Longwear Cream Eyeshadow Stick in Onyx and the brand’s Drama Liqui-Pencil Longwear Eyeliner in Noir Intense. On the Lancôme ambassador’s lips, he applied Le Lipstique in Sheer Chocolate, a brown pencil, and Color Design Lipstick in Fashion Foward, a rich matte berry.

Hairstylist Vernon François created a sculptural updo topped with a thin gold headband that pulled the regal look together.

Perhaps the most majestic look of the night was seen on Janelle Monae, who came out to support the film wearing a gold-embellished kufi cap that looked like a literal crown.

As with her tri-tone Christian Siriano gown and jewelry, the singer/actress opted for vibrant make-up with a powerful red lip and bright blue underliner.

Lupita Nyongo shares her experience of assault by movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and why she was afraid to speak out

A top hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein is the subject of national debate in the US, where many hollywood actresses have accused him of sexual harassment. Actress Lupita Nyongo has now joined the list of those speaking out, and sharing their encounter with him.

The 12 years a slave actress in an open ed column on New York times, shares how, ‘For the first time since I met him, I felt unsafe’.

Lupita goes further to describe the chilling moment Harvey Weinstein invited her to his bedroom, and how he tried to undress infront of her.

Lupita Nyongo writes;

‘Not long after we met in Berlin, Harvey wrote to me inviting me to attend a screening of a film — a competitor’s film similar to one he had produced. He said we would be watching it with his family at his home in Westport, Conn., which was not far away from New Haven, where I was living at the time. He would send a car to pick me up. I accepted the invitation.

The driver and I met Harvey in the little town of Westport, where he informed me that we would be having lunch at a restaurant before getting to his home. I did not think much of this. It was a busy restaurant, and as soon as we sat down he ordered a vodka and diet soda for himself. I asked for a juice. Harvey was unimpressed with my choice and told the waiter to bring me a vodka and diet soda instead. I declined and said I wanted the juice. We went back and forth until finally he turned to the waiter and said, “Get her what I tell you to get her. I’m the one paying the bill.” I smiled and remained silent. The waiter left and returned with a vodka and diet soda for me. He placed it on the table beside my water. I drank the water. Harvey told me that I needed to drink the vodka and diet soda. I informed him that I would not.

“Why not?” I remember him asking. “Because I don’t like vodka, and I don’t like diet soda, and I don’t like them together,” I said. “You are going to drink that,” he insisted. I smiled again and said that I wouldn’t. He gave up and called me stubborn. I said, “I know.” And the meal proceeded without much further ado. In this second encounter with Harvey, I found him to be pushy and idiosyncratic more than anything.

We got to his home after lunch and I met his domestic staff and his young children. He took me on a brief tour of the house before he rounded us all up in the screening room to watch the film. He had just produced a similar film of his own, but everyone was raving about this rival version.

I settled in for the film, but about 15 minutes in, Harvey came for me, saying he wanted to show me something. I protested that I wanted to finish the film first, but he insisted I go with him, laying down the law as though I too was one of his children. I did not want another back-and-forth in front of his kids, so I complied and left the room with him. I explained that I really wanted to see the film. He said we’d go back shortly.

Harvey led me into a bedroom — his bedroom — and announced that he wanted to give me a massage. I thought he was joking at first. He was not.

I began to massage his back to buy myself time to figure out how to extricate myself from this undesirable situation. Before long he said he wanted to take off his pants. I told him not to do that and informed him that it would make me extremely uncomfortable. He got up anyway to do so and I headed for the door, saying that I was not at all comfortable with that’.

Other actresses who’ve spoken out against the film moguls alleged misconduct have sent shock waves around the world, and also inspired a hashtag #MeToo, to go viral on social media.

Harvey Weinsten is an American film producer and former film studio executive. He and his brother Bob Weinstein co-founded Miramax, which produced several popular independent films including Pulp Fiction, Clerks, The Crying Game, and Sex, Lies, and Videotape.

‘It Will Be Okay,’ Lupita Pens A Moving Letter To His Dad, Anyang’ Nyong’o

It is rare for Lupita to talk about her family life.

But today she has opened up in a way no one ever expected her to.

“Today is the day my father gets sworn in as the Governor of Kisumu County in Kenya. I thank all those who voted for him and wish him the very best as he embarks on this new journey of socio-political representation,” Lupita posted on her social media platforms.

“To celebrate this day from afar, I reflect on the 10 Things My Daddy Told Me When I Was A Kid That Gave Me Confidence:
1. You are smart: I took this to mean both that I was dressed well (We Kenyans say “smart” for “well-dressed”), but also that I was intelligent. It always made me feel special and valuable.

2. It will be OK: He said this whenever I was sad with the little burdens of my childhood (a fight with my friends, a broken doll, a lost favorite piece of clothing). He also said this when I was concerned with the big burdens of his adulthood (detention without trial, house arrests, caught in tear gas during violent riots). Daddy said this to me as he held me close and I always felt a sense of comfort and security from him. I knew he would do all he could to make my life safe and that he was doing the same to make the country better for all of us.

Lupita and Anyang Nyongo

3. You can do anything: Daddy never EVER made me feel limited by my gender. He supported me when I did things that my society thought un-ladylike, like whistling, dressing like Kriss Kross, and even climbing trees in my adulthood. He was my first example of what feminism looks like on a man.

4. Do whatever you want to do; just do it to excellence: Dreaming out loud was something he encouraged. He loved listening to my adventurous and sometimes unrealistic and romantic ideas. He did that for all of his kids. Together with my mom, my father taught me to dare to imagine an ideal world and go about making it a reality.

Lupita and Anyang Nyongo

5. Knowledge is power: He ALWAYS reads and he is a walking example of how the power of an education never comes to an end. He has taught me that learning is the best way to stay young, beautiful and relevant. A free mind is stronger than a free body.

6. Show me: My Daddy loves to learn from his children. He is not afraid to admit what he does not know, and admitting I am ignorant of things has saved me from a lot of unnecessary embarrassment. Not knowing isn’t a crime. Refusing to learn is.

7. Consider the other side: there is always two sides to a coin. Being able to identify the other side of an argument makes yours stronger. It also makes you more empathetic.

Lupita and Anyang Nyongo

8. You must stand up for what you believe in: This is a fundamental lesson from my father. He lives by it. It is why he serves: To literally make the world a better place. I know I have to do the same. Good people need to do more to bring balance, because the bad people sure are busy these days!

9. Very Good! ‘A’ Minus: This was his way of saying that I did well, but also jokingly reminding me that there is always room for improvement. It’s about not congratulating yourself too much or berating yourself either.

Lupita and Anyang Nyongo

10. Daddy loves baby: He has said this to me all my life. A reminder that he loves me, yes, but also that I will always be his little girl. It is heartening to remember as life gets more and more adult, that we all start off with the innocence of a child and the pure love that comes with it.
Daddy, congratulations! Baby loves Daddy!

‘I Was Happy When I Received A Special Message From Lupita Nyong’o’ – Fena Gitu Narrates

Fena Gitu has taken the music industry by storm ever since she released her latest jam, ‘Doing Her Thing Tho’. She went ahead to give certain women a shout out for their marvelous work and doing everything they can to make things work for them. It’s basically an anthem for the women and we have embraced it fully.

In the song, she mentions, Lupita Nyongo, Edith Kimani, Victoria Kimani, Victoria Rubadiri and Huddah Monroe, as she gives them props for working hard and staying true to themselves.

In an interview with Buzz, she revealed that she actually got a special message from Lupita and she couldn’t keep calm.

She said, “I was happy when I received a special message from Lupita Nyong’o after she heard my song. She sent someone to deliver the message and I hope one day I will meet her. I also mentioned Victoria Rubadiri in the second verse and I just like the way she presents herself. She is very classy, simple in a nice way and she seems like such a mice person. It was a good addition. The two Kimani’s who I also mentioned in the song (Edith and Victoria) are doing their thing and they were very supportive when they heard the song.”

She also went ahead to narrate to Buzz the kind of treatment she received during Omarion’s concert as she was performing on the same stage as the international superstar. She stated that when the star arrived, there was a lot of commotion backstage to a point she couldn’t get access back to her tent to get her stuff.

fena 2

She said, “Event organisers should accord local artistes respect. During the Omarion concert that was held recently, I had to let my frustrations known. There was a lot of commotion backstage when he was ushered in, everything changed. Artistes on the lineup were not allowed to go back to their tent to get their stuff including me. I was frustrated because I was at my own concert which I had performed and I should have been allowed to go back to my tent. This was not the first time it happened and I’m pretty sure it will not be the last one. I hope in the Wizkid concert there will be order. For me there is a certain courtesy you extend to an artiste who is performing at that kind of platform.”

OUCH! Lupita Nyongo’s Lookalike Recently Had The Most Awkward Moment

If you think you are having a bad day, spare a thought for Siaya Songstress Yvonne Shanneyz who had to bear the humiliation of falling facedown during the Luo Festival.

According to heads up, the curvaceous beauty from Siaya tripped, fell and landed on the staircase at the Luo Festival which was recently held at Carnivore. She was among the artistes who were slated to perform.

According to a Heads Up source, Yvonne missed a step and fell down a flight of stairs after her performance in a rather embarrassing moment. But the Siaya damsel did not let that dampen her spirit as sources say she partied all night long despite suffering minor injuries.

She is known for her songs ‘Nipe Mapenzi Yako’ , ‘Mapenzi Matamu among others. The Siaya damsel has a close resemblance to Oscar Award winner Lupita Nyongo and would actually pass for her sister.
Yvonne is both beauty and brains and she is not afraid to flaunt what God gave her as is evident in her mode of dressing which includes figure hugging dresses. She would easily give our own Vera Sidika a run for her money.
Be the Judge.
