Tributes to 13 students crushed to death in school stampede in Kakamega

 

13 students died at Kakamega Primary School as they attempted to leave the school.

Another 39 students were injured and rushed to the Kakamega County Referral Hospital.

Kakamega Central police commander David Kabena confirmed the incident.

Pupils reportedly started running out of the classrooms after a bell rung to go home.

Some pupils said a teacher, who was behind the pupils, ordered them to leave quickly and they started running down the stairs.

The pupils in front stumbled and fell and those behind also tripped.

The staircase is narrow.

Kenyan pastor’s 17 page suicide note blaming wife

Pastor Elisha Misiko, who stabbed his wife Anne Mughoi several times before killing himself inside his Ground for God’s Gospel ministry in Bamburi Mombasa, was troubled.

The man of God left behind a 17-page suicide note, where he outlined the problems he had been going through in life and what made him take his own life.

In the long note titled Betrayal and Consequences, Pastor Misiko revealed shocking details. In one confession, he says that infidelity on his wife’s part and the fight to control family property drove him to the brink.

In the note, he alleges that his wife has taken away their children and forced him to pay for child support and he said he was crushed when one of his children sent a message claiming that ‘they had found a good father who took care of them’

90% of my money I sent it to her (Anne) but she wrote on social media that I don’t pay fees or even buy clothes.’ Misiko wrote in his note.

 

He also outlines that they started from nothing and he even took a loan to buy a parcel of land, where his church stands.

When we got married, life was hard. I was forced to do the mkokoteni business..” I took a loan from SMEP and combined with the money I had accumulated to buy a plot… I bought a plot for the sake of my family.

The man of God further reveals how his wife and a few church members changed the ownership of his land.

She took away everything we accumulated for over 19 years. She took away my plot of land and church instrument/equipment by force.

According to the police, the two had issues since 2013 and at some point Misiko was arrested for threatening his wife.  The couple had been married for 20 years.

Eldoret woman kills husband over love text message

Police in Eldoret have arrested a woman who stabbed her husband to death last night at Shauri Estate in Eldoret.

The deceased was a taxi driver and arrived to the house late in the night from work after which there was a quarrel over a text message he received leading to a fight with the woman.

A neighbour Pauline Kibe said they head a commotion and screams in the house but efforts to save the man failed as he died on the spot after being stabbed in the chest.

Police are at the scene investigating the incident and have removed the body to the Moi Referral Hospital mortuary.

Kisumu man shoot thrice in chest over parking space 

 

A man was on Saturday shot dead in Kisumu city.

Peter Otieno Ogallo was allegedly shot thrice in his chest by Daniel Yona Jaoko, a manager of Ray Green Hotel in Nyamasaria.

Otieno, the Modern Coast Bus Manager Kisumu Branch, was shot in the presence of his family was rushed to Avenue Hospital where he succumbed.

Jaoko had dropped his girlfriend Vivian Achieng Meresa who stays in the same compound with Otieno during the 5 am incident in Polyview Estate.

County police commander Benson Maweu said Jaoko and Vivian have been arrested over the killing.

Maweu said the deceased was shot as he tried to remove his Nissan matatu of registration number KCU 552X from the parking.

Otieno’s car was however blocked by another vehicle – a black Jeep of registration number KCC 422T.

“When he approached Jaoko to allow him to remove the vehicle, he instead withdrew his gun and shot him,” Maweu said.

Maweu told the Star on the phone that two bullets went through the left chest of Otieno damaging his lungs.

The suspects are held at Kondele police station. The police boss said the matter is under investigation.

“We will take them to court once investigations are complete,” he added.

Maweu they also recovered a Ceska pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition when they arrested the suspects and another 42 rounds of ammunition at Jaoko’s house.

He was also found with firearm licensed issued in 2012. Maweu said Jaoko had not complied with the directive issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’ i on firearm holders.

On January, Matiang’ i directed that all private firearm holders must be registered afresh by March 18, 2019.

He said the firearm Licensing and Control Board has developed a new microchip card which will have all the details of firearm holder.

The CS said that every civilian who owns a gun must produce the card on demand when asked to do so by the police starting March 19.

Student cuts off schoolmates arm in confrontation over suspension claims

 

A manhunt is on for a student who chopped off the arm of his schoolmate on Saturday.

Police in Kabondo Kasipul constituency are still looking for the missing student.

The 16-year-old form three student at Nyamwanga Mixed Secondary school went into hiding after he cut off the left arm of his colleague a form two student.

The suspect had accused his colleague of being behind his suspension from the school.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect attacked the victim when he was on his way home from school.

The two students are said to have differed during a sports day which occurred in the area.

“He confronted the victim at 5:30 pm with an argument that he reported to teachers about the differences between them which led to his suspension,” an eyewitness said.

The victim is said to have told the school administration what they quarreled about before a decision was made to suspend the suspect.

On Tuesday, Matata Nursing Hospital administrator Peter Nyabola said the victim underwent treatment and is still recuperating in the hospital.

He said they are optimistic the health condition of the boy would improve.

The administrator said the suspect also slashed the left cheek of the victim.

 “We have stitched and stopped bleeding from the arm and cheek with injuries,” Nyabola said.  

He said chopped off section of the arm is preserved at the hospital.

Speaking over the mater, area Police Commander Charles Barasa said the suspect used a machete to execute his act.

“The arm was cut off when the victim tried to shield the attack. We believe the intention of the suspect was to kill the victim,” Barasa said.

The police boss said the arm fell separately on the ground. They collected and covered it and took it to the hospital.

Barasa added that his officers they will inquire from the school administration the information they had about the differences between the two students.

“Though the suspect is a minor, he must tell police why he decided to cut the arm of his school mate,” Barasa said.

Man bites off wifes lip and ear over vegetables dispute

A 39-year old woman from Tanga Kona in Nambale, Busia county, is nursing injuries after her husband bit off a chunk of her lower lip and left ear.

Jackline Kerubo, a mother of six, said she wanted to give vegetables from their farm to a neighbour on Thursday last week but her husband forbade it.

Kerubo, who has been married for 21 years, says she now fears for her life and those of her children.

She said her neighbour intervened after her husband swore to teach her a lesson and beat her on Monday.

Speaking to journalists at Nambale police station after reporting the assault, she said the suspect pounced on her while she was in the kitchen, hit her on the head, then bit off her lip and ear.

She said that her eight-year-old child hit the suspect.

Chief Maryline Oundo called upon couples to seek counselling.

She called upon community members to reporting cases that violate human rights to get assistance and punish perpetrators.
