Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang’s passing has left behind big shoes to fill in the political landscape of the South Nyanza region as the succession battle shapes up.
Kajwang’ was until his death the political kingmaker of Homa Bay politics whose influence earned him a place among the most trusted allies and advisors of Cord leader Raila Odinga.
The Star Newspaper has learnt that a group of politicians from Homa Bay county are holding a series of secret night meetings to craft winning strategies ahead of the by-election.
Already, the political temperature is rising, with different politicians being touted as possible successors.
Some of the people being mentioned as frontrunners include Suba MP John Mbadi, Hilary Alila who came second to Kajwang’ in the 2013 elections, former Rangwe MP Philip Okundi, former Chief of Staff at Prime Minister Raila’s office Caroli Omondi and Sam Wakiaga.
Other contenders are former Gwasi MP Felix Nyauchi and former NSSF Managing Trustee Fred Rabongo.
