Healing is messy – Janet Mbugua encourages

Inua Dada advocate Janet Mbugua approaches life with such grace and style that whenever she drops words of advise on her Instagram, we can’t help but notice.

On Thursday, Janet captioned a black and white picture

It’s ok,
Healing is messy and you will have good days and bad.
Some days you’ll be in good form, some days you won’t.

The secret is being kind to yourself as you dance between the two. (Quote)

We’re all just trying to get by best as we can.

It doesn’t make you a bad person,
A poor leader,
A terrible parent,
An insensitive sibling,
An ungrateful child,
A difficult colleague,
A distant friend…’

Fans related so well to her encouragement that even Marini CEO Michelle Ntalami said “At that moment, you’re in bad form.” Felt every word. ♥️’

Janet noted her words replying ‘@michelle.ntalami ❤️’

Another happy fan added ‘we all need to hear very often to get us through the best and the worst of times.’

A list of celebrities who have faced the terrible act of cyber-bullying in Kenya

Cyber-bullying, as described by Wikipedia, is a form of bullying or harassment using electronic means. Cyber-bullying and cyber-harassment are also known as online bullying. It has become increasingly common, especially among teenagers, as the digital sphere has expanded and technology has advanced.

With the growth and penetration of social media especially in Kenya, this phenomenon has also caught on with a recent report indicating that Kenyans are among the worst of cyber-bullies in Africa.

Some of the people in this country that have faced the worst of it is the stars and celebrities who grace our screens. And that makes sense as they are well-followed online and are instantly recognisable.

Below is a list of celebs who have faced cyber-bullying in Kenya and the things they have gone through.

Pierra Makena

Pierra faced attacks on her person about her weight a couple of years ago after she gave birth to her daughter, Rica Pokot. Pierra spoke about the abuse and explained to the masses that a woman’s body goes through a lot of transformation after childbearing and it only takes a courageous woman to accept the changes.

Lynda Nyangweso
On May 2013, Lynda Nyangweso, found herself facing bullies after a photo of her was posted on Twitter. That was enough for some users to attack over her weight.

Lynda Nyangweso

Linda, however, did not allow the bullies to get to her down and responded with a classy comeback, “omg woke up this morning to realize people have discovered my secret: I’M FAT.”

Carol Odero

Carol who is one of Kenya’s most respected fashion watchers came under fire from Kenyans after criticising Meghan Markle’s dress and make up saying it came short of her expectations.

Carol Odero

Kenyans called her out telling her that her makeup and code of dressing is what needed an upgrade. They even suggested that she might be hiding something underneath her makeup.

Before she gave birth, the gospel singer had been attacked and trolled online for her lack of bearing a child. Her response was always fierce reminding her haters that it is not good to judge someone since you do not know what they are going through.

Kambua smiling

Also Kambua was attacked for marrying a man that some considered too old for her.

Nyota Ndogo

Nyota came under the kosh after her images from her wedding came to light, with some Kenyans attacking her for poor-makeup.

Nyota responded by saying that her photographer had used poor lighting for the function.

Adelle Onyango

In October 2014, Adelle had a horrible interaction with a Facebook user who compared the presenter to a monkey. The bully posted a photoshopped meme with an insulting comparison of a monkey next to Adelle.

Adelle Onyango

Adelle responded by saying, “I don’t describe to your definition of beauty or perfection. How sad must your life be to go around pointing out at what people have to change about themselves? I pray that you get over whatever insecurities your life is drenched in and seek life, not perfection. I like my teeth just fine.”

Dk Kwenye Beat

The gospel musician who is above average in terms of size has always been a target with critics attacking him for his weight.

DK Kwenye Beat

Meme’s and jokes were also made to get the message to him.

In April 2015, the singer was attacked after she posted an image of herself without any make-up that revealed a lot of acne on her face.

Some Kenyans proceeded to call her ugly also creating memes with insults about her acne and pimples to troll her. Later on after she was made the Oriflame brand ambassador(a beauty company), Avril addressed her haters saying,

“They laughed at me about 4 months ago. Ridiculed me to a point I didn’t even understand what for. Made memes and called me ugly. But guess what, my acne scars are slowly fading away! My forehead doesn’t have even one pimple yet that was the heaviest affected bit on my face. No condition is permanent. Always remember that. Thank you, Oriflame for helping me understands my skin. Give me another 4 months and my skin will be completely healed.”

Jimmy Gait

Jimmy Gait has spoken severally about the bullying he has experienced over the years, with the gospel musician even admitting that he had even gotten depressed.

During one of this times, he was attacked after releasing a mash up of ‘Hello’ by Adelle, which left many Kenyans with more questions than answers.

The bullying caused him to cry on air during a live Tv interview on The Trend.

Khaligraph Jones

The real O.G as he calls himself has been accused with the unsubstantiated claim that he bleached his skin. The completely unfounded claims have been denied severally by the musician who says that the bullying doesn’t affect him as he doesn’t care.

Kobi Kihara

Her ordeal started in August 2018 after Kenyans noted that she might have been plagiarising content.

Kobi, who was in the United States at the time to pursue a design course, was mocked after an observant Kenyan noted that a photo of a plate of salad she had claimed to have prepared was actually from getting from the internet.

What ensued was a viral #KobiKiharaChallenge and #KobiWithAnEye, which she had used when sharing photos on Instagram.

While her situation might have been self-induced, the reaction she suffered was unprecedented. The cyberbullying Kobi endured was so much she ended up deactivating all her social media accounts.

Janet Mbugua

In October 2015 the former Citizen TV anchor Janet Mbugua was attacked by some who felt that she wasn’t supposed to be on air with her baby bump.

She also said that she had become a sneaker fanatic, an obsession she traced back to the birth of her children. “I had my firstborn child in 2015 and the second one in 2018. Both were born through Caesarean section and I lost the ability to wear heels, so I fell deeply in love with sneakers,” she said.

She also explained to Azziad that she was a private person and does not like sharing intimate matters. “I manage to keep a lot of things out of the public. I am a very private person living a public life,” said Janet.

Last year, the media personality had explained why she left her star-studded job as an anchor on Citizen TV. Janet related that she had become a stranger to her son, Huru and due to her busy schedule he spent most of his day with the nanny.

…There was a time when I went in to hug him and he took a step back. He wasn’t familiar with me, because he spent most of his day with the nanny.

The famous girls’ rights advocate narrated her experience saying,

“How many politicians, how many colleagues in the media have approached me? So many. Did I say yes? No. Even when I am married and gotten kids. I just used to say point-black that, ¨I have a family. Don´t you think what you are asking is wrong?¨.
Because honestly, actions have consequences.”

‘My son could no longer recognize me’ Janet Mbugua on why she quit TV

Janet added, “It´s a choice. I just said that even if they can give me all the money in the world, what will happen to me? There is no credibility I´ll have.”

“I don´t want to sit here and pass judgment but I do believe this is wrong especially if it is somebody who has a family. On principle, it´s wrong but at the same time, it doesn´t mean that that woman should be abused, or harassed, or bullied.”

She also advised many young women to make better choices in the face of such temptations from the men proportioning them,

“It´s a human rights violation. She needs to be educated better that the choices that she makes will come back and hurt her because the day you are older there will be a youngin and you will be kicked out. You can lose your credibility or even your job, you lose everything.”

Chipukeezy, Janet Mbugua, Terryanne, Amina team up to pay girls school fees

Chipukeezy, Janet Mbugua, Terryanne Chebet, and Amina Abdia teamed up with Chipukeezy this week to aid a female high school student who was filmed while drunk a few months ago.

Chipukeezy who is a NACADA board member on Monday visited the 15-year-old at her home in Karatina together with NTV’s The Trend host Amina.

The comedian posted the good news on his Instagram page revealing that the girl had thought of killing herself when the video went viral. His caption read;

A few months ago a video showing a 15-year-old girl clearly drunk went viral. When she was on the verge of running away from home because of the video, contemplating suicide etc I took it upon myself as a Nacada Director to reach out and offer help where I could. I promised to offer mentorship, ensure she completes her high school education, receive the much-needed guidance and counseling and today, I’m so happy to say she’s doing so much better.

He also explained that he had reached out to several media personalities who offered to pay for the girl’s school fees for a year each. He added;

I reached out to my sister @aminaabdirabar who not only joined me and came all the way to Karatina BUT she even offered to pay 1 year of her high school. It inspired me to do the same, I then called @officialjanetmbugua & @terryannechebet who both agreed to help and each paid fees for a year as well. Kindly note that the reason I reached out was not to reward her for drinking, but give her the mentorship she requires & to highlight the much-needed discussion on alcohol affecting our youth across the country.

Many fans and followers of his were pleased with the wonderful information and rightfully said so. This great news reminds me of the richest black man in America, Robert F Smith.

Last month, the billionaire pledged to pay the college student loans for 396 graduates from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, that amounted to at least 4 billion shillings!

Kenyan celebrity mothers can take a few lessons from Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their first child, a son, on Monday 6, May 2019.

The royal couple named their first child Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Unlike many prominent people or celebrities who hide their children’s face until they’re grown, Archie’s parents unveiled his face two days after his birth.

Prince Harry’s brother William’s third child’s face was unveiled a few hours after birth.

Well, most of the local celebrity mothers take time to unveil their baby’s face. For some it is borne of a feeling of insecurity, for others, it’s to protect their children from trolls while for others still, it is for religious reasons -like with Muslims.

It’s an Islamic tradition that a baby’s face is only unveiled 40 days after its birth.

Michael Jackson was the first celebrity who kept the face of his children from the limelight and below is a list of Kenyans who’ve done the same.
