Kidero suspends 18 officials from housing department

Nairobi governor Dr Evans Kidero has suspended Chief officer in charge of planning, urban development and housing Rose Mwema in the wake of the collapsed Huruma building that killed four.

Kidero who made good an announcement on Monday that officers found culpable in failing to follow due diligence and clearing buildings for construction without proper inspections would be punished, also suspended Director of Enforcement Jairus Gathenge.

Eighteen other officers have been sent packing to pave way for investigations into their involvement in clearing buildings within the city for construction.

The seven-storey Huruma building collapsed on Sunday evening barely three weeks after another structure came down killing six people and injuring several others.
