Grenade attack in Mandera leaves several wounded

Three people were critically injured on Thursday after a hand grenade was hurled at  a food kiosk in Mandera town.

Confirming the attack, Mandera county police commander Job Boronjo said the attackers are believed to be still hiding in the town as police officers on patrol around the scene saw no one running away.

“We have cordoned off  the area and we shall catch up with the attackers,” said Boronjo when contacted.

Boronjo said the three had been rushed to Mandera  County referral hospital for treatment.


Two injured in Garissa blast

Two grenades were hurled at a local hotel in Garissa injuring two men aged 17 and 43.

Unknown assailants of the 7 pm blast were seen surveying the newly opened food joint at Bulla Adhan area a few minutes earlier before returning with the explosives.

They hurled the first grenade which missed to hit the lady owner of the hotel, then blasted a second one which caught the arm of a cook and a patron.

The two casualties were rushed to Garissa County Referral Hospital. One of them suffered a fracture on his fingers, while the other had shrapnel cuts on the shoulder and arm.

There was only one patron during the blast as the hotel was just about to be closed for the day.

10 year old boy killed by an abandoned explosive in Baringo

A 10 year- old boy died on Friday after an explosive believed to have been abandoned by military recruits at a village in Baringo went off.

Lukeno Ngorumura was herding his family’s livestock when he picked up the explosive just a few meters from their home.

Witnesses say the object blew up immediately the boy hit it with a stone, killing him instantly. A 12 year old boy who was playing nearby is recovering in hospital.

Residents of the area are now demanding that the military which has been conducting training there should sweep the zone for abandoned explosives.

Police kill 2 terror suspects in Mombasa

Police in Mombasa last night gunned down two terror suspects and recovered a hand grenade and a pistol from them.

Mombasa County Commander Robert Kitur says the two are believed to have been planning a terror attack when they were confronted by police while riding in a matatu.

One of the suspects was shot as he tried to a hull a grenade at the officers. Anti terror police officers safely removed the grenade from the scene.

Police believe the two were part of a gang behind a series of recent gun attacks in the coastal city.
