The kitenge that actress Viola Davis wore has been described in glowing words by a international womens magazines.
The how to get away with murder actress was described as wearing a stunning multi-coloured, off-shoulder silk cotton African print gown designed by Los Angeles based designer Claude ‘Lavie’ Kameni.
For instance Womens wear magazine said that
“Viola attended the show in a multicolored, puff-sleeved gown made with African Ankara fabric, a wax print textile featuring vibrant batik-inspired patterns”.
Vogue magazine interviewed her stylist who said
“The multi-hyphenate star wanted a dress that “spoke to her specifically as a Black woman,” according to her stylist Elizabeth Stewart, so Davis and Stewart collaborated with Black designer Claude Kameni, the founder of Los Angeles-based brand Lavie By CK.”

Viola Davis got nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture (Drama) for her performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which also co-starred late Chadwick Boseman.
In the film, Davis stars as the legendary blues singer, also known as the Mother of the Blues, during a recording session of the titular song in 1920s Chicago.
Chadwick Boseman won the Golden Globe award for Best Actor – Motion Picture (Drama) posthumously.
