ODM has ordered 45 Nairobi MCAs who attacked executive director Magerer Langat to pay the party a collective fine of Sh100,000.
The decision followed a meeting by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) on Tuesday.
NEC also formed a committee to look into the allegations levelled against Magerer. The committee is headed by lawyer Fred Achock, Farah Malim, Senator Harold Kipchumba and Mombasa women’s rep Mishi Mboko.
The NEC meeting was chaired by party leader Raila Odinga with Secretary general Anyang’ Nyong’, nominated senator Agnes Zani, Mathare MP Stephen Kariuki, and Migori women’s rep Dennitah Ghati in attendance.
Nyong’o said NEC will censure the MCAs despite their apology to the party over the incident
Magerer was on Thursday forcibly ejected from a party meeting at Orange House by a group of Nairobi MCAs. The group stormed the meeting, roughed him up and ejected him as Raila, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and MPs looked on in disbelief.
The MCAs, who seemed well organised, pounced on Magerer soon after the meeting began. The progress made on the Okoa Kenya referendum push was one of the matters to be discussed.
On realising what was going on, Raila personally instructed the head of his security detail to call officers from the Kilimani police station, who arrived in time to save Magerer.
The MCAs appeared unfazed by Raila’s presence. They were accompanied by rowdy ODM youth allegedly part of the so called Men in Black squad that sabotaged the party’s convention and elections on February 28.
They accused Magerer, a former assistant minister, of being a Jubilee mole leaking secrets to parties in competition with ODM and working against the party’s interests.
