‘On a day like this I think deeply about my brother..’, Winnie Odinga mourns late brother

Former Prime minister Raila Odinga’s last born daughter, Winnie Odinga has turned 30 years old.

Winnie chose to dedicate her special day to her late brother Fidel Odinga who died under unclear circumstances on January 4, 2015.

Taking it to Twitter, Winnie remembered her brother saying;

“On a day like this I think deeply about my brother.

As I celebrate another year around the sun, I pray for eternal guidance.

Rest peacefully bro, I’ve finally reached #Detty30,”

Winnie was close to the late Fidel whom she referred to as being a protective brother.

Fidel was found dead in his house at Windy Ridge, Karen after a night out with friends.

His family commemorate the death of their son in special ways.

In January last year, Ida Odinga, the wife to Former Prime minister shared on her social media pages as a special tribute to their son:

She wrote;

“Today like many days is full of fond memories of you.

A loving son, a protective brother, a doting father and a loyal friend.

Today is always painful because once more it is a reminder that life is sometimes rough although we were blessed with years with you, our time together will never be enough.

For you were someone special who was thought so highly of and we will always remember you with affection, warmth and love.

Rest peacefully.”

‘Court battle started by Ida is malicious,’ Shouts Fidel Odinga’s secret bae

Phoebe Akinyi Gweno, who is said to have delivered Fidel Odinga’s twins, has emerged and disowned a suit filed by Ida Odinga.

Akinyi has termed the court battle started by Ida as malicious, raising interest about what she tells the court.

“The petition is marred with ill will and malicious motives, creating a tussle with the deceased’s widow on one side and the deceased’s mother and siblings on the other, her lawyer John Swaka said.

“The interested party and her children have been left in between owing to her seeking to be enjoined as an interested party to clear the air and give her position on the same,” he said.

In court documents obtained by the Star, Akinyi says she wants to be a party to the case in the interests of her children and to “clear the air.”

Akinyi filed the affidavit on Friday, just four days after the High Court ordered a DNA test on the twins to determine if they are indeed the late Fidel’s children. If not, they present the Odinga’s with tough options.

Depression, fear, timing: Reasons why some celebs are yet to bear kids

In the case, Opposition chief Raila Odinga’s wife Ida and her daughter Winnie are seeking to block Fidel’s widow Lwam Bekele from solely administering her late husband’s estate.

“The widow to the deceased [Lwam] petitioned the court for letters of administration for her late husband’s estate.

The said petition was objected to by the deceased’s mother [Ida] and sister [Winnie], respectively.

The objectors mentioned my children and I in the matter,” Akinyi stated in her affidavit.

I intend to be enjoined as an interested party for the interests of my children and to also clear the air and give my voice on the same,” she stated.

Akinyi has been managing a forex Bureau at Adams Arcade and sometimes at Warwick Centre in Gigiri.

Fidel’s secret woman rejects Ida, wants to clear the air

It is not clear whether she had an intimate relationship with Fidel but Odinga’s son used to change his money there and conduct his M-Pesa transactions at the same bureau.

“We do not know if Fidel actually had a relationship with Akinyi and whether the twins are actually Fidel’s,” Akinyi’s colleague at the Forex Bureau said.

In the request filed in the High Court under a certificate of urgency, Akinyi asserts that she is the biological mother of the twins – a girl and a boy — but the birth certificates do not identify the father.

She explains that she intends to be a party to the case to protect the interests of the minors who together with herself stand to suffer “irreparably” if the court denies her the opportunity.

‘I was supposed to meet Fidel Odinga on the day he died’ Confesses Kirigo Ngarua as she opens up on losing her job at Citizen

Kirigo Ngarua is among media personalities who faced the axe when the Royal Media Group started letting go of some of its staff.

And although she is still in the limelight, she is not doing it as a TV presenter any more. In an interview with freelance journalist Yvonne Aoll, Kirigo disclosed that she was given the sack minutes before going on air.

She also opened up about her close friendship with the late Fidel Odinga, whom she talked with just a day before he passed away.

She says

“I spoke to Fidel the day before he passed away. We were supposed to meet up that day. I was at the Artcaffe in Junction, and he asked me to meet him at the Artcaffe in Westlands, and I thought, I can’t leave one Artcaffe to go to the next one, that would be ridiculous. So we put the meet-up off and planned for a later date. And then, he died.”

Despite knowing that sooner or later she would leave Citizen TV, Kirigo was still shocked at how fast things unfolded, adding that

“I think a part of me had known it for a while, and the bosses had been kind enough to offer me different opportunities, so I stayed. But in the end, I just wasn’t really happy, and they could tell. But we tried. As much as I enjoyed the show I wasn’t ‘growing’…and it showed to those who knew/know me, I mean, here I am, a girl with her Masters in International Diplomacy, a topic I so love but never got a chance to discuss it.”

She concludes

“Let me tell you what I think failed me – not leaning in and explaining my desires and frustrations. So here I was, not entirely happy but hoping that the world would notice and make it easier for me, you would think I would have resigned if I wasn’t happy but I didn’t, I was scared of the unknown,”

My son Fidel can make a good politician – Ida Odinga

Raila Odinga’s wife Ida has  said her son Fidel can make a good politician.

Ida said nothing can stop Fidel, moulded by his grandfather Jaramogi Oginga Odinga who was a “great politician”.

“He was nurtured by his grandfather and his father (Raila) who is also a politician. We cannot rule out the fact that he can also become a politician,” Ida said. She was speaking at KBC’s Radio Mayienga FM during a Thursday morning talk show.

Ida however did not reveal whether or not Fidel will seek an elective post in the 2017 elections. “Fidel can make his own decisions. I cannot decide for him because he is a grown up. He can choose to contest or not,” she said.

She said nobody in their family has asked Fidel to run for any elective post.
