Local and international celebrities who share similar stage names

There are celebrities who have similar stage names. Some derived their names from icons they looked up to while in some instances it is pure coincidence.

Check out my list. Do you agree or nah?

‘Appreciate Your Own’ Popular Musician Tells Kenyans

When you are at a club partying and the Dj plays a bongo or a naija tune everyone heads to the floor to dance as he or she sings word for word, but is that the same reception we give to our very own Kenyan music?

Just the other day Tanzania’s fast rising music sensation Rayvanny bagged himself a Best International Viewers Choice Award at the 2017 BET Awards, and Kenyan took to social media to congratulate him for such a major achievement.

In 2015, Uganda’s music sensation Eddy Kenzo won the award under the same category.

The fact that Kenyans seem to prefer all things foreign has not gone down well with one local artiste. singer Eric Wanaina has penned down his opinion in a column expressing his opinion on the love for all things foreign.

MMMMMMMMMMMM

On an online platform, he says he gets embarrassed  when introducing himself as ‘Eric’ while his friends from South Africans introduce themselves with their tribal names like‘Kgomotso’ and  ‘Olusegun.

He has also taken issue with our use of sheng.

“urban Kenyans get as far as Sheng, a hybrid of Kiswahili and vernacular so diverse that kids from estates separated by as little as a highway have different names for the same thing. Sheng dictionaries become obsolete by the time they go to press, owing to the rapidity in the change of vocabulary. A Sheng speaker can date you to within a year of your birth, locate your home to within a street by the word you use for ‘car’ or ‘mobile phone.’ In the rural areas, Kiswahili is as foreign as Greek, and is spoken only by those who might have picked it up in school or by those ethnicities whose ethnic language shares a common Bantu base with Kiswahili, akin to that between Italian and Spanish. We claim to have a national language. Listen again.”

I’m not sure Naija musicians even know there’s a contest running, and are a mixture of bemused and irritated by the prevalence of their music on our media observed when they visit.Urban legend recounts a Naija artist rebuking a Kenyan journalist for fawningly informing him that he was more famous than any Kenyan artist in Kenya’.

He insists that when Nigerian music played it is charged through the speakers riding on all Nigerian high life. Wainaina says when musicians take it to the streets all they want is more of everything like airplay, access to great producers and policies that will favor their growth. They want the same attention given to Nigerian and Tanzania in terms of music.

That was the beginning of a beautiful love story and the two are now inseparable. Recently, Bahati introduced his two-year-old daughter, after keeping her a secret. This news sent social media into a spin, with some congratulating him and other attacking him for not unveiling her before.

Then all hell broke loose when Diana Marua posted a photo with the little girl. Her relatives and some fans lashed out at her, telling her that it’s insensitive to share a photo without the mother’s consent.

Eddy Kenzo is no doubt one of the biggest music sensations in East Africa and a household name in his home country, Uganda and Africa at large with his dancehall music going global.

The singer came into popularity with his hit song ‘Sitya Loss’ but his musical career was not all rosy, as he had to struggle and go through challenges while starting up.

The award winning artist, who now has 3 albums to his name, lost his mother at age 5 and would go on to live a street life for 13 years until he decided to venture into music.

His biggest achievement so far is his BET win for ‘The Viewer’s Choice Best New International Artist’ award and his various collaborations with other African artists.

EDDYK

Kenzo, real name, Edrisa Musuuza recently declared that other than Idi Amin, he’s the biggest Ugandan export, and it looks like he was right.

The celebrated singer is now at the peak of his career, and is enjoying all the flamboyant lifestyle that comes with it, after having lived a challenging childhood.

“I Am The Best Export Uganda Has Produced After Idi Amin” Ugandan Singer Eddy Kenzo Declares

Ugandan sensation Eddy Kenzo is no doubt one of the biggest household names in East Africa and Africa at large with his dancehall music going global.

The singer who came into popularity with his hit song ‘Sitya Loss’ is an award winning artist with 3 albums to his name.

His biggest achievement so far is his BET win for ‘The Viewer’s Choice Best New International Artist’ award and his various collaborations with other African artists.

Eddy Kenzo, real name, Edrisa Musuuza, has a successful music career and through his songs and videos, he gave popularity to a talented group of slum kid dancers by the name, Triplets Ghetto Kids Dancers.

Away from music, Eddy Kenzo is a family man, currently dating his girlfriend and baby mama, Rema Namakula, whom they have a baby girl together; Amaal Musuuza, and another daughter, Maya Musuuza, from a previous relationship.

In an interview with WBS TV’s Morning Flavour last week, Eddy Kenzo declared that he is the hottest thing in Uganda right now, with the biggest achievement musically.

“Yes, definitely I am the best in this game currently; no one has achieved what I have achieved musically. I respect Chameleone, Bobi Wine, Bebe Cool and the rest because they are legends and I am their fan. However, Ugandans go with the trend and our music is what trends now.”

He went on to say that other than Idi Amin, he’s the biggest Ugandan export, which comes after his previous statements that he’s no longer a BET material since he’s aiming for the Grammy’s.

“Apart from Idi Amin, I think am the best export Uganda has produced after him. No one has raised the Ugandan flag in as many countries as I have done. Am not being arrogant, but my work speaks for itself!”

Check out his latest project with Ghetto Kids below.
