She said yes! Dr Ofweneke proposes to long term girlfriend

The comedian and his girlfriend Christine Tenderess at a dinner impressed many when he got down on one knee and proposed to her.

She said yes and friends screamed their congratulations. Christine was celebrating her birthday and one friend distracted her as Ofweneke was behind her kneeling down with a ring held out.

She turned and got a shock upon seeing him looking at her lovingly with a ring.

The media personality and Christine made their relationship official when he took to Instagram2019 where he shared a photo of them kissing with the caption, “The eagles.”

Dr Ofweneke speaks of his desire to join Classic105 FM (exclusive)

I recently spoke to the illustrious comedian, Dr Ofweneke. The man is always a pleasant interviewee and always gives detailed, impassioned answers to any question I ask.

On April 1st, Ofweneke whose real names are Sande Bush posted an update on his Instagram page where he said that he had joined Classic105.

Although posted on the highly-suspect date, the message fooled many (including me) with congratulatory messages flowing in from most quarters.

So was joining Classic105 a desire he had or was it all just a prank? “Yes, it is a desire to get back on radio,” he started off. “I think I have been off radio for the past 5 years. I have been in talks with a few radio stations and if all goes well then I might be back on radio. It depends…My intentions even back in the day was to take my radio career to RadioAfrica.”

What show would the comedian want to do? “Whichever comes my way. By the grace of God I am among the best talents around. Having a 13-year career in radio, TV, I believe I am up to the task with any show I would be given.”

He finished off by saying, “There is no show I haven’t done. I have done breakfast, morning, evening shows. Whichever comes, I am versatile.”

Were he to succeed in joining Classic105, Dr Ofweneke would join the biggest radio talent in the Kenyan media landscape in Maina Kageni.

Dr Ofweneke on what he told Prof Hamo after recent scandal with Jemutai (Exclusive)

Dr Ofweneke is an example of a smart, authentic and brilliant comedian who has been a fixture on the entertainment scene for the last 11 years.

The man is well-respected among comedians and as such his opinion is listened to by those who know him. With that background in place, I asked the singer his opinion on the sordid scandal that had transpired between his industry colleagues, Professor Hamo and Jemutai?

She stood me up 4 times! Dr. Ofweneke speaks about new lover (Exclusive)

Ofweneke said that he had reached out to both but had only been able to reach Professor Hamo. He said that he had been brutally honest with Hamo when they spoke.

“First of all that they should just cool down after their posts attacking each other left, right and center. Number 2 as a man we have no options, that he still bears the most responsibility in getting things back to order, whichever the case.”

Adding,

“I wanted to speak to him as an elder, and as a friend (which I am), as a brother and as a father myself. I have two kids with my ex, Niccah and we have certain agreements as to how we raise them. Yes, they can reach an agreement and this isn’t the end. If Hamo has done wrong, I told him he needs to be man enough to apologise.”

Dr Ofweneke pleaded with the public to give the two time to heal and work on their issues. He was also concerned about the impact the scandal could have on the kids.

“I wish them all the best, especially for the sake of the children. It is something I have always told every estranged couple, that at the end of the day it’s no longer about the two of you.  It ceases to be about the two of you when a child comes into your life. It’s about protecting the kids, cause the world is cruel.”

He finished by commending Churchill for his timely intervention in the ruckus. “I am pretty sure that they will reconcile their differences but I am happy that Churchill intervened when he did.”

I was a matatu tout! Dr Ofweneke on his first job ever

Dr Ofweneke is one of the most popular comedians in Kenya, a feat that has been a long time coming for him. But before his meteoric rise to the top, the father of 3 had a very interesting job.

Can you guess it? The funnyman divulged to his fans online that he had been a Matatu Tout for the Number 8 Kibera route and also a Cyber Cafe attendant. But apart from that revelation, the man’s life is one that deserves a quick walk down memory lane.

Ofweneke’s real names are Sande Bush. He was born on 17th January 1991 at Pumwani Hospital and is from the Luyha community. The man who is famous for his Nigerian accent is a comedian, MC, songwriter, actor, and motivational speaker, roles that have seen him being a sought-after MC for corporate gigs.

He co-owns a digital marketing and advertising agency called Defa Media Group along with being the CEO of Ofufu Media, which deals with artist management, branding, and events organizing.

His father is David Sande Oyolo, and his late mother was Jennifer Atieno with the comedian’s parents separating when he was just a week old.

His childhood was tough for his father who was now a single parent. The struggles prompted his father to take his son to live with his grandmother in Mbotela as he completed his University studies.

“We moved to Huruma, Dandora – all these ghettos.” He credits his tough-as-nails nature to growing up in this trying of circumstances.

She stood me up 4 times! Dr. Ofweneke speaks about new lover (Exclusive)

The father of 3 also attempted suicide three times; one time by jumping in front of an oncoming pickup truck along Malava- Webuye road. The second time he tried hanging himself in a hut in a shamba he was taking care of. The third time he swallowed pills but ended up vomiting. He realized that everybody else was trying to live, and that is when he stopped the attempts at his life.

His lucky break came at 19 when he landed a job at Milele FM, making him the youngest radio presenter. While many might be confused about his accent, he was born and raised in Kenya.

The reason for his comedy having a Nigerian tilt was that his co-host at Milele challenged him to come up with something catchy and unique and immediately the idea of using the Nigerian accent clicked in his mind.

The man has been married once with his first wife being called Veronica Wanja aka Nicah the queen. The two had 2 kids before they divorced.

She stood me up 4 times! Dr. Ofweneke speaks about new lover (Exclusive)

Dr. Ofweneke has been dating a pretty light-skinned lady called Christine Tenderess. The lady recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and what better opportunity to interview the entertainer than this.

One of the most interesting questions about Christine is where the couple met. He said that he did so at a birthday party that he and she attended.

“I saw her and she was light-skin and she was looking fine. Then she had a very beautiful blue dress. Another thing I noted was that she was regal and seated while everyone else in the club was dancing. Everyone is competing to shake what they have while she is so classy and taking care of everybody.” he said.

He noted that Christine didn’t try to impress him and was indifferent to his star power.

“It was so bad that when I asked her for her number, she just gave me her name. So I wake up in the morning, In look for her number but I realise that I only got her name. I decided to search for her Instagram. I went everywhere looking for mutual friends.”

Be selfless – Dr. Ofweneke talks about co-parenting with Nicah

He finally found success.

“I found her number after a chain of 5 friends. That’s when I bumped into her. I slid into her DM’s and told her that I wanted her number as she had only given me her name,” he confided in me.

She responded by saying that her actions were intentional.

If you thought him getting the number was hard, then what about getting a date? The entertainer was stretched to his limits as Christine stood him up 4 times before she finally agreed to meet him! The only reason she met him the 5th time was that she was only coming to eat.

The fact that he was that patient with his new woman even astounded his friends who knew that he had a big ego. “For me, it’s about the fact that I don’t lose. So how could this chick stand me up like this? Does she know who I am?” he pondered.

I will join politics if I have to! Dr Ofweneke says of legacy he wants to leave behind

Dr Ofweneke might be only 30-years-old at the moment but that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t amassed an impressive CV so far.

But that doesn’t mean that the father of 3 is resting on his laurels yet. In a recent interview with him, I asked the comedian what he wanted his legacy to be like.

His answer was well-thought-out, with the man sharing his poignant dreams on how his desired liegacy. He told me,

“I want the day I walk out of the entertainment industry, I want to be remembered as a brand who genuinely brought smiles into the faces of Kenyans and the world.”

Adding,

“Who was real enough not to be ashamed to show the world who he was because I am only human. I want to be remembered as the guy who genuinely impacted the world, not only through laughter and my jokes but also through the wisdom in my mind and also using my influence to change the lives of the young people of Kenya and the women of Kenya.”

Ofweneke said that he would go to the extent of joinining politics in the future to achieve his dreams.

“You never know, if I feel that my creative space isn’t giving me enough will to do that, then if worse comes to worse and it means me getting into the political world and doing that, then I will do that when that time comes.”

He reiterated his stance with the wonderful summation below:

“I want to be remembered as brand that made people smile, that made people laugh but spoke not only to the minds and hearts but also to the lives of my fanbase and used my influence to change the live of my generation.”

They have failed us! Listen as Dr Ofweneke calls out government in passionate speech

Dr Ofweneke is one comedian who loves speaking his mind. He isn’t afraid to air out his controversial viewpoints and he did just that in an interview I had with him recently.

In the interview, Ofweneke called out the government for its poor treatment of the entertainment industry. He told me,

“I can say this confidently. The Kenya government has failed terribly in supporting the creative world in general. And whether they like it or not, we must face it, that we are heading to a world whereby, yes, it’s important to go to school, yes I went to school but we are heading to a world whereby your papers might not mean as much, your papers might end up remaining as a bragging tool.”

Adding,

“Yes, I have a master’s, I have a degree, we are heading into a world where the creatives are going to run the economy of the world. Not only in Kenya. I can tell you seriously if you can check through the Corona period, it was the creative space literally feeding people from the influencers to the tech guys, to the digital content creators, that is what has been carrying the economy.”

The man went all in calling out the failures of the Kenyan government telling me,

“I am ashamed that our government has not come up in any way. The only time that our politicians look for us as entertainers they wanted us to endorse them towards the election because they want to influence the elections, they are a parasite and try and influence us to get votes, then they forget about us.”

Politicians and the government has failed in a major way in ensuring that the entertainment world succeeds. I am looking for a day that government will say, ‘We are going to build social halls and theatre halls in Kenya,  we are going to build state-of-the-art music studios. We are going to equip every constituency with proper video production equipment.’

The father of 3 also gave his opinion on what the Kenyan government should do to help the entertainment industry. He told me,

“We are going to make sure that every county(and not owned by a politician) will own its own radio and TV station. Those are the things I am looking at-Supporting the upcoming comedians and artistes. The same way we devolved the govt, I am looking at how do we devolve the entertainment industry. If we don’t support the creative world in Kenya, we are going to fail.”

He finished by saying,

“And the government should not hide behind Covid. Even look at the moment, we can’t do shows, in the studios we can’t have a live audience yet the politicians are going around talking to us about the BBI. Again the entertainment world hasn’t been told what’s in it for us. They have failed in taking care of the needs of the entertainment world.”

I want to be close to my 3 daughters. I want to be a better father – Dr Ofweneke says

Dr Ofweneke recently turned 30. The father of 3 has been meditating on his life and his relationships. In a recent interview, the comedian told me the resolutions he had made as far as 2020 goes.

One of the biggest take-aways for him was that he would be dropping some of his friends this year.

“In terms of my relationships with my friends, one of the decisions as I enter 2021, there are a couple of people that I am shedding, some are going to fall along the way.”

He added his rationale why telling me, “There are some numbers that will be deleted. In my phase of life, at times God blesses you and at times we end getting a whole matatu and carrying others. At times you just need to concentrate on what God is giving you instead of you surrounding yourself with a lot of destructions that hinder you from hearing what God wants for you and your purpose for your life.”

But on the relationships with his nuclear family, Ofweneke was more positive and said that he would be trying to get closer with them.

I want to be more close to my wife. I want to be close to my 3 daughters. I want to be a better father. I want to spend as much time together. I also want to spend as much time with my folks. I want to give more attention to my siblings as well.

I may not be very kind this year – Dr Ofweneke says on his comedy plans this year

Dr Ofweneke is one of the most popular comedians in the country. The man has established himself in the industry, tickling people with his restrained brand of comedy.

But the comedian wants to break out of the mold that Kenyans have come to know him for, according to a recent interview I did with him.

The man told me that he wanted to show his versatility and mastery of the craft in 2021.

“In my career, just having hit 30 years. Expect to see a bolder, more fierce Dr Ofweneke. The last 12 years I have learnt all I need to learn. I have cried, I have celebrated, I have been celebrated, I have been belittled.”

Adding, “The Ofweneke people are used to isn’t the one that people are going to see this year. I am undertaking mentorship. I want to grow people and I am undertaking projects inside and outside Kenya that people will see. Some will be shocked and surprised but some will be happy with this new change. My theme for this year is, “A disruptive 2021. It’s breaking all the rules. I may not be very kind this year.”

His belief in himself has truly increased and the comedian was quick to re-iterate that telling me,

“I have grown so much respect for myself as a person. I have realised that I am the one who used to look down on myself yet I am strong enough to do it.”

“Now more than ever, I believe I was born to do this. I was able to keep up my head high the whole of 2020 being among the top TV hosts, top comedians and top brands not only in Kenya but abroad,” he finished.

Your spouse is the most important investment you can make – Dr Ofweneke declares

Dr Ofweneke is one of the most hard-working comedians in the country. I spoke to the comedian last week and he was open about the year he had had saying that 2021 was just an extension of 2020 for him.

“2020 was a year of lessons for me. 2021 will be side B for 2020 because it will be better than side A. There was a lot I like,” he started out.

On friendship he said, “The first one was about friendship, that not everyone that calls you bro is bro and that those who are really your boys are. Times will tell whether they are truly your boys. I learnt that you shouldn’t blame other people for not helping you cause they are simply going through the same thing you are going through only that they are not saying.”

The comedian also spoke about his family and how they had been understanding of him through the hectic 2020.

“Family is the most important thing. They will stand by you, they won’t judge you and they will remember the better days you had on the days you don’t have. They will know that when you had, he took care of us. When he is down, he is really down. When he is up, he is really up.”

Dr. Ofweneke with Christine Tenderess in a file photo

He summarised his support systems by speaking about the importance of what a good woman can do for a man in his life telling me,

“One of the best things that I have learnt due to Corona is that your wife or your spouse is probably the most important investment you can ever make. At times the person you sleep with is the only one who can understand you as a person.”

‘My mum abandoned me a week after my birth’ Dr. Ofweneke tearfully reveals

Dr. Ofweneke is one of the most popular comedians in Kenya. What many might not know about the man who has been well-received by his fans and peers, is that he experienced one of the most painful rejections a person can ever go through.

While many had many great things to say about their mothers on Mother’s Day, the father of 3 had a different tale to tell. The father of 3 narrated that his mother had abandoned him when he was a toddler during an interview on Churchill Show where he gave his heartrending story.

The entertainer tearfully explained that he had been in 1991 at Pumwani Hospital in Nairobi and had been raised entirely by his father after his mother dumped him on the stairs at their home and left.

“If I go 29 years back, I was a small boy born to David Sunday and the late Jennifer Atieno in a small house separated by a bed-sheet, with a bed on one side and a kitchen on the other. That’s where I was born, in Mathare where my parents used to live. In Pumwani Hospital. I was told that we didn’t have money at the time and my mum shared a hospital bed with another woman. My mum broke a thermos and the hospital actually held me until they brought a new thermos,” he disclosed.

Weezdom speaks about leaked bedroom photo between him Dr. Ofweneke’s ex

He added,

“I think my dad was too high to remember that his child had been born. I know he’s watching. One thing I’ll always respect is that he made the decision to stop drinking the day I was born, he decided to be a better man. So when I was taken home he was high as usual, but I don’t think his relationship with my mum was in a good place. So a week after my birth, there’s a place my dad used to pass by in Mathare and drink a bottle of Pilsner before coming home.”

That would be the last day his father would ever drink, Ofweneke revealed.

“So on that day, he had just opened his first Pilsner to drink when the house help came and told him that Atty (Ofweneke’s mother) had gone and left the baby on the stairs. So by the time my dad leaves that place and comes home, he finds neighbours taking care of me after they found me on the stairs,” he stated.

Dr. Ofweneke
Dr. Ofweneke

Ofweneke revealed the deep respect and admiration he had for his father because he raised him alone, noting that they referred to each other as ‘bro’ due to the close nature of their relationship.

“A week after my birth, mum leaves and I was left with dad. One reason I respect him so much is that he shouldered two burdens, not one. My father has fought battles. This guy, you hear me calling him ‘my boy’ because we call each other bro. This guy has fought battles. God might not have given him everything, but he gave him patience, resilience and a tough heart.”

This was revealed during a question and answer session with her fans, where the mother of two was asked if she still loved her ex by a curious fan. To which she responded saying that she does, but but the caveat that she wasn’t in love with him.

“Year I still love him but no longer in love with him,” wrote Nicah.

The comic even detailed the first time that his partner at the time Niccah was pregnant and had serious cravings. He said that back then, Niccah had a craving for omena.

“The cravings had started in the middle of the night and I had to drive from Kiambu Road at the time to Nakumatt U.K just to get the protein.”

He added incredulously,

I returned home at about 4 a.m. The whole apartment block started smelling like omena. Don’t forget this is around 4 in the morning.”

The man split from Niccah a few years back and has been dating the mother of his new-born, Christine Tenderess.
