Maina Kageni is one of the legends the media industry has today.
The Classic 105 breakfast show presenter has been in the industry for over 20 years.
He is the last born in a family of three raised by a single mother after his dad passed away when he was at an early age.
Speaking on Churchill Show ‘The Journey Series’ on Sunday, Maina says he was raised without his biological father but SK Macharia was his father figure.
“Growing up without a father didn’t affect me that much because you don’t miss what you’ve never had,” he said.
“But I had a very strong father figure in SK Macharia and if there’s anything I needed I would go to him so he basically is my father, he raised me. His children are like my brothers and I’m thankful to him.”
Jemutai the comedian has for the first time introduced her cute bundle of joy to the world.
She has jealously shielded her private life from the public eye, only choosing to share her jokes on social issues. But this time it seems she could not hold it back.
The proud mummy shared a photo of her son, proclaiming her love for him.
Meet her adorable baby below.
Back in March this year, Churchill show’s Jemutai was forced to come out and deny that her peer Prof Hamo is her baby daddy.
In a statement seen by Classic 105, Jemutai said:
“I AM IN A SERIOUS RELATIONSHIP WITH SOMEONE WHO IS NOT IN THE LIMELIGHT. PROFESSOR HAMO IS NOT MY BABY DADDY. SUCH STORIES CAN DESTROY A FAMILY. HE HELPS ME A LOT WITH MY COMEDY AND WE WORK TOGETHER, THAT IS WHY WERE ARE ALWAYS SEEN TOGETHER BUT WE ARE NOT DATING.”
Last week, one such celebrity surprised us when she shared photos of her babies and their rumored father.
Citizen TV’s Anne Kiguta has never addressed rumors that the father of her twins was President Uhuru’s nephew until last week when she praised him and he responded.
Others who have never told the world about their baby daddy include Papa Shirandula’s Awinja.
Daniel Ndambuki alias Churchill shocked many of his loyal fans with his latest announcement. The man who has become the godfather of Kenyan comedy with his numerous shows said that the final airing of Churchill Raw was to occur yesterday.
He wrote on his Instagram page,
Do you know these faces? Today we celebrate a journey, a journey of nothing but Growth and Transformation. The ‘Mid-Week’ dose of fun and laughter comes to and end on NTV today. Tune in. #ChurchillRawFinale

Nobody wakes up and just makes it in life. You have to work hard and smart to get what you want. These Kenyan comedians have really hustled their way to the top although some of them still don’t believe they are there yet.
Here is what some of your favourite Kenyan comedians were doing before they were famous,
1. Paul Kimani Njoroge aka Jasper Murume
Immediately after he finished high school he started selling oil and was also a boda-boda driver. He later came to Nairobi to audition to be in Churchill show but lost it twice. He then went back to practice sales and marketing.
It was later that he discovered that there were Churchill show auditions in Meru and he took the next bus to Meru to audition and his big break started when he was invited for his first show at Churchill Raw
He was an actor at Kenya National Theater. His big break came in 2013 when Abel Mutua saw a play he had done in 2011 and he called him because he wanted to cast him in a show he was starting called ‘Hapa Kule’. It gained popularity on YouTube before it became a shown on a local TV network.
3. Eric Omondi
While at Daystar University, he was the drama club chairman. He also declared himself the varsity’s unofficial emcee and also did standup comedy when he got the chance. In 2006, he met Daniel Ndambuki AKA Churchill, who at the time was doing Red Corner. Eric was emceeing an event at which Churchill was to give a motivational talk. Churchill discovered Eric’s ability to do comedy, took his number and promised to get in touch.
His big break happened after two years when Churchill called him back and invited him to perform at the Churchill live show. It was at this show that Eric’s rise to fame and success began. He left the show early 2017 to pave way for upcoming comedians.
Wanjiku started the character of Teacher Wanjiku in a Heartstrings play called 43rd Kenyan tribe in 2007. She received critical acclaim and went ahead to take part in other set book plays and worked on more than 30 plays.
Her big break was when she started doing stand up on her first performance at the Churchill Show in 2013 getting more than 200,000 YouTube views and more offers thereafter.
5.Herman Gakobo Kago aka Proff Hamo
He was in theatre groups where he performed set books and got a chance to do stand up comedy. He auditioned six times before he finally performed on Churchill on the Road Nakuru Edition.
His breakthrough came in when a performance of his during Churchill show was uploaded on YouTube and it went viral.
In another message, he reassured her all would be well.
Mum don’t worry all will be OK I know you are tired with hospital bed but God is in control. Guys continue praying for my Mum #TheProdigalSon
The mother is finally out of hospital and he is thanking to his fans for standing by him throughout his mothers stay in hospital.
He shared his thoughts, writing;
“Thank you guys for keeping my mother in your prayers. Finally she is out of Hospital and now recovering at home. Thanks to @kakaempire for all the support they showed me during this hard time. I am humbled. I also thank all my friends who called to know how she was fairing on while in hospital. May God continue healing you Mummy. Don’t worry Mum everything is gonna be OK in Jesus name…….AMEN #TheProdigalSon”
Dr Ofweneke has opened up and spoken about a time when he was dirt poor.
“At this point torn between the dream of being a top comedian and a top city lawyer at the same time 😆😆😆😆😆I think my neighbours thought I was gay because they never saw any girl come to my place but why would I bring her when she was all I had 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️😜😜😜😜😜😜,” Dr Ofweneke joked.
The TV comedian and event host highlighted his story after a photo of a one roomed house – scantily furnished – went viral online.
This photo moved Dr Ofweneke to the point where he revealed that the room is similar to one he lived in when he was working at an MPesa shop.
“Waaaaaah!! When I saw this photo on IG, I just couldn’t stop but thank God for this far I have come, 8 years ago with my first jobo as an MPesa agent, this is how my first ever house in Kangemi looked like ☺☺☺☺☺.”
“A Kaluworks green stove, 2 sufurias, a curtain that really wasn’t hiding anything, two stainless steel spoons, a mattress that felt like sleeping on Supa Loaf slice of bread, an LG phone that costed 1,499/= which was a torch at the same time my home theatre.”
“We would share a bathroom with almost 5 other neighbours so you’d find me with my towel and soap dish at the queue just like everybody else freezing like a thin sausage. I would never lock the house at times even when am sleeping because, I mean, what are the thieves coming to steal unless maybe steal my problems 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️”
“See me now!!” Dr Ofweneke said in wonder, “A top comedian wearing suits like a top lawyer!! MY GOD GOT SWAG, HE SWAGGED ME UP 😎😎😎😎 There has to be a BREAK before the BREAKTHRU 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾”
He also posted a disclaimer, “This is not the original photo of my house.”
Popular comedian Eric Omondi has come under fire after posting a video playing with boys from Tukana in their birthdaysuit.
Eric Omondi, who is known for his creative funny jokes and skits, this time went a notch higher to show off what he hides beneath clothes barely a month after exposing his family jewels. But this one has backfired on him spectacularly.
The celebrated comedian has become the subject of discussion on social media and even some of his tribesmen have disowned him for embarrassing them, but others are supporting him.
Check out the mixed reactions
Betty Opondo: Thank God Eric omondi is not my boyfriend/ lover eeeish!!!!! I can’t stand that crap!!!!!! ………Well it’s his business
Duke of Nyanzshire: On behalf of Luo community we hereby DISOWN Eric Omondi. We can’t hold our goods with one hand and it perfectly hides. Huyu mamake alimtoa central or wherever. Return back to sender
Kenya West: The only thing wrong with that Eric Omondi’s video is that it ended up online. Otherwise, for those from those sides nothing shocking, that’s how we bath, the childhood bath sessions in lake/rivers were epic. Even now I still do that when home. It’s normal thing there.
Dikembe: People totally ignorant of #LuoAnthropology castigating Eric Omondi. I’m here to defend a brother and a culture we long lost. The Luo is a naked person. We are nudists and it is sad we lost this to so-called ‘modernization’.
Nkaate: I don’t see anything wrong with Eric Omondi’s video. Such episodes happen in upcountry daily. Those complaining must’ve been born in Nairobi and found Nairobi River stinky as raw sewer. Tembea Kenya!
COFEK and Ezekiel Mutua the CEO of Kenya Classification Film Board (KCFB) also weighed in on the Eric Omondi nudity video.
COFEK: THE VIDEO in which comedian Eric Omondi is totally nude and playing with naked children in water is a tragedy. He has crossed the red line of indecent exposure and must be arrested, and put under medical test to ascertain whether it’s deliberate or if he is unwell #RipoffKenya
“The video by Eric Omondi nude and with naked kids should be condemned in the strongest terms possible. It’s an illegal, bizarre and obscene comedy that violates the rights of children. It’s an offense to film children this way for money. This is obvious exploitation of children for money. There can be no justifiable context to warrant this indecent exposure and abuse of children’s rights. This video is not only in violation of the KFCB classification guidelines and the spirit of Cap 222, it’s also in breach of the Children’s Act. The parents of these minors should sue Eric Omondi for the gross abuse and indecent exposure of their kids. We will pursue all legal means to stop this sort of moral bankruptcy and gross violation of the rights of children. This video is the evidence that some of our so called celebrities are vain and are obsessed with sexualisation of content at the expense of decency. Using children this way in the name of comedy is wrong. How sad that anyone looks up to this clown for a role model,” read Mutua’s post.
Eric was forced to swallow the humble pie and apologize to Kenyans. Below is what he wrote on social media.
“I have been a comedian all my life… Many are the times that I have errored… Today was one of those days. I have offended so many. I did not in any way intend to offend anyone…I AM DEEPLY SORRY FOR THAT… 🙇♂️”
When someone makes it in this life, it’s always assumed that they must have slept their way to the top. But one thing people don’t seem to understand is that success is not sexually transmitted and it’s not science. Those who have worked hard over the years, have seen the fruits of their sweat.
Eric Omondi is the perfect example of people who have worked hard and used their talents to their advantage. He’s among the most celebrated comedians in the country and he’s proven that he can really crack our ribs.
Comedians have always made fun of Eric’s body, because he’s slim and the funny thing is that he hasn’t changed even from way back. He’s still the same size and he took the opportunity of sharing a throwback photo of him in his school uniform and beside him is a lady whom he went ahead to reveal is his sister and not his high school sweetheart.
He said, “That is not my High school sweetheart, that’s my baby sister Irene Adhiambo Omondi.”
Eric’s journey has not been easy and he has had his own fair share of struggles. He revealed that his house was once locked and all his stuff auctioned because he couldn’t pay rent for 5 months.
“Sometime in September of 2010 while living in Nairobi West my house was locked and all my stuff auctioned… I had a 5 month rent arrear… This was during the break between season one of Churchill Live and Season two… I was as famous as I was broke… On that fateful day my neighbours watched in owe as two pick ups carried away my things and as the Caretaker “politely” asked me to step out of the house so he could lock the door… All these happened at midday… AS I walked out of the compound totally dejected…I remember saying to God ‘You are my LORD make me LandLord one day‘.”
Well, Eric is now building rental apartments and he’s more than grateful to God for seeing him through.
One of Kenya’s most decorated comedians, MCA Tricky has been in the limelight for quite sometime. He is known for his smart, witty jokes that leave the crowd in stitches. But many have been wondering whether this dude is taken or not.
Most comedians are known for being playas, something which they justify with the phrase, “mimi ni msanii bwana.” That losely translates to, “I’m an artiste, bro.”
Artistes, especially rappers are known for leading this lifestyle, the perfect explanation to why Future’s relationship with Ciara never lasted. They broke up based on infidelity rumors. The list goes on and on. Jay Z has been accused of cheating. You know these cases.
MCA Tricky was on Tonight Live with Dr. Ofweneke to set the record straight on whether he is single and ready to mingle or neither.
“Sindio, aii, kwani? Niko na yeye. Niko serious.” (Yes, why not? I have one. I am serious.)
Tricky said that he is dating although he didn’t confirm the name of the girlfriend.
Then scene switched to a beautiful lady behind the well decorated comedian. She denied knowing the lady and proceeded to say that bloggers had just claimed the two are an item. She called her ‘just a fan’.

Nothing comes on a silver platter. You have to toil hard to live that life you desire or else you will end up dying poor. Churchill Show comedian Stella Bunei Koitie, commonly referred to as Jemutai, is a great example of from grass to grace story.
Just like any other person with dreams of becoming successful in future, Jemutai was not afraid to try her luck and more so in the male-dominated field. She started auditioning at the celebrated local comedy show which nurtures talent in the East African region.
Jemutai didn’t have it smooth and she auditioned for 10 months straight without success.
According to an interview with Buzz, Jemutai revealed that she had become a popular face at the Carnivore restaurant (where Churchill show is shot) and at one point, she decided to give up after months of no success. Little did she know that her time to take over the comedy industry had already come.
“I auditioned for 10 months straight without any success, every Tuesday my mother gave me fare from Embakasi and taxi money to go back. The Carnivore, where we shoot Churchill, became a second home, I knew everyone, the watchman, and the cameramen even the waiters. Initially, I was auditioning as Stella but my act was not convincing. Nonetheless, I kept going back and the judges kept encouraging me to develop a character that will help me execute my comedy,” narrated Jemutai.
The witty lass, who is known for her long skirt, checked oversized blazer, rubber shoes and a head scarf (basically, representing a typical Kalenjin woman) signature dress code, made her first debut on October 22nd, 2015 and the rest is history.
“At some point, I was about to give up and on October 20th, 2015 I came for what was to be my last audition, after that, I was to quit. However, that week I was picked and October 22nd, 2015 was my first show ever. The Carnivore, where we shoot Churchill, became a second home, I knew everyone, the watchman, and the cameramen even the waiters. Initially, I was auditioning as Stella but my act was not convincing”, she said.
Jemutai, who is without a doubt the best comedienne Kenya has ever produced, revealed that she was excited to get a job and whenever she graces the screen, she always ensures that she is at her best leaving her followers in stitches.
“It was a great relief to get picked after such a long struggle, by then I had gotten used to the stage and the set up so I was very comfortable. My first show became the best edit of the night and I have never looked back.”
Churchill Raw’s comedian and host MC Jesse has not had an easy journey. Jesse, real name Jasper Muthomi, told this writer the many jobs he had been doing before he became a celebrity.
“After finishing school, I came to Nairobi to look for a job, and because I didn’t have a place to stay, my classmate’s parents took me in. It was easy for them to accommodate me because their son used to stay at our place when he came to Meru.”
“They were seven of them and were living at a small house in Kawangware, so we used to sell mandazi every morning. Their mother would tell me to sell five extra mandazis and pay myself with them. During the day, we sold chips mwitu. That’s why to date, I’m a good cook. I know how to chop potatoes for making fries.”
After staying with them for months, Jessy moved on to another friend’s house.
“One day, I was in town and met up with an old friend. We went to their home in one of the leafy suburbs and I started staying with them. His father was an MP at that time and he saw our friendship with his son. Funny enough, he made me his shamba boy. I used to wash clothes and cook.”
The man has now made it and is winning people’s hearts with his jokes on Churchill Raw.
