Jimmi Gathu is one of the veterans in the media industry. The father of two and grandfather has lived a life that is quite memorable.
Jimmi who ruled the airwaves in the 90s, reveals that he lost himself when he was shown the door at his former workplace.
He told Grace Msalame on NTV’s Unscripted With Grace;
It was bad. I lost myself. I lost faith in myself. I was broken, at the height of my game, at the point where I was told go home, my show was the biggest radio show in the country. and even at that, I was told, no, go home. I had never been without a job for 30 years. and the first envelope that came out was mine. so that was hard.
He said that the knock-on effect was that his job loss affected his spending habits and that he couldn’t spend on his kids the way he had done in the past.
But the entertainer credits his wife with helping him get out of the depression he was in. He added that if it wasn’t for God and his wife that he wouldn’t have gotten over the rut, saying,
Two years when I was down, that memory came back and I went back and I told God, I can’t fix things. if it wasn’t for my wife, things wouldn’t be like this right now.
He said that he found himself and finally learned what his brand was meant to be. His story of redemption is not rare as some other entertainers have gone through some rough patches themselves.
Jimmy Gait, the musician behind ‘Huratiti’ also revealed that early in 2017 he was bankrupt. He said that it was so bad that he lived in his car for 3 months!
He even became depressed as a result but a timely intervention from a wealthy tycoon brought him back from the brink.
