Daddy Goals? Father discovers an unusual way to get his baby to sleep – leaving his wife embarrassed

Parents have varied approaches when it comes to settling their newborn baby down for a midday nap.

One of the most common is manually rocking the crib back and forth to lull your stirring child into sleep – but this can be physically taxing.

So a clever dad from the Gold Coast has found a simple solution – something his wife of four years, Laura Bentley, is calling a ‘non-conventional sleep aid’.

On Monday he decided to slip his wife’s vibrator into his daughter Lucie’s cot before taking a photo to share with her later on.

‘I almost choked on my tea when he told me,’ she wrote on Instagram.

Talking to Kidspot the mother-of-four said it worked surprisingly well and she slept for a few hours at a time with it beside her.

She even managed to self soothe herself back to sleep after waking up.

The toy’s batteries are yet to run out and since it ‘isn’t being used for anything else’ at the moment it makes sense to keep up the hilarious sleeping trick.

Laura, who is also a mum to 10-year-old Will, four-year-old Indie and two-year-old Zahli, jokingly apologised to her father for sharing the image online – which has since gone viral.

And for good reason too – with some of her 10,000 Instagram fans praising the hack.

‘This is the BEST thing I’ve seen in ages, I wish I’d thought of it with my two non-day sleeping babies,’ one person wrote.

‘Two for the price of one,’ another added.

Women who miscarry ‘more likely to conceive second time’

Women who experience a miscarriage during their first round of IVF are more likely to have a baby with further treatment than those who did not become pregnant, a study shows.

Experts said the findings could offer hope to couples considering whether to continue treatment after the devastating loss of an unborn child.

Around 1.5 per cent of babies born in Britain each year are conceived through IVF. More than 52,000 women had the treatment in 2014.

Although 27 per cent of IVF pregnancies result in a live birth, 22 per cent end in miscarriage.

But the latest study, by Aberdeen University, found the odds of having a live birth were 39 per cent higher in women who miscarried in their first round of IVF than those who did not conceive at all.

Study author Natalie Cameron said: ‘Miscarriage can be a devastating experience for any couple, but especially for those who have already struggled with infertility.

‘This, coupled with the emotional and financial burden of multiple cycles of treatment, can make many couples give up. We hope our findings will provide reassurance to these couples as they consider their options for continuing treatment.’

Researchers examined the records of more than 112,000 women who started IVF over a ten-year period from 1999.

The records, which are held by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, showed 112,549 women had IVF, of which 62.3 per cent did not get pregnant, 8.3 per cent conceived but miscarried and 29.5 per cent had a live birth.

The researchers found that after a second round of treatment, 31.7 per cent of women who miscarried in the first round had a live baby, compared to 22.8 per cent of women who had not got pregnant in the first round.

When couples had three rounds of treatment, 40.9 per cent of women who had originally had a miscarriage had a baby, compared to 30.1 per cent of those who had not conceived first time.

Women who had a live baby through their first round of IVF were much more likely than other women to have another through subsequent rounds, with nearly half having a second baby within two more cycles.

Dr David McLernon, another author of the study, which is published today in the journal Human Reproduction, said it was possible miscarriage helped prepare the body for future pregnancies.

He said: ‘Miscarriage shows couples they can get pregnant, that an embryo will implant in the womb. If you keep trying you are more likely to succeed.’ He said the findings showed three cycles appeared to be the ‘optimum’ number to maximise the chances of having a baby.

Study: Having Another Baby Could Make Your Marriage Better

According to findings in the journal Couple and Family Psychology: Research and Practice, If you want a super married life have another baby.

According to researchers from the University of Michigan, several married couples get stressed after the first child birth with the new and challenging duties staring at them.

But with the arrival of the second baby, the quality of married life slowly returns to where it was before the first birth.

“While the initial four weeks after the second birth involves a period of adjustment, couples often adapt to the changes by four months,” the team noted.

Previous research has suggested that marital satisfaction continues to decline with each additional child.

However, researchers in the new study found that couples experienced only minor disruption as the new baby was added to the family.

The study included more than 200 married couples who were tracked from the last trimester of pregnancy through one, four, eight and 12 months postpartum.

Couples having a difficult transition were more likely to use destructive marital communication (yelling, blaming, threatening their spouse) during child care disagreements about who was doing what.

“However, the disruptive period was short-lived. Couples engaged in positive marital relations again by four months,” added Richard Gonzalez, professor of psychology, statistics and marketing.

Meanwhile, couples using more constructive communication and problem-solving strategies fared better after the birth of their second child.

“Couples who communicated positively and received support from family and friends were able to cope with stress, which prevented marital decline,” Volling noted.

Police in Machakos are investigating the circumstances surrounding a two-day-old baby who was found dumped in a latrine. Residents of Ekalakala were Friday night forced to demolish a toilet in order to rescue a two day old baby boy.

Confirming the incident, Area Chief Timothy Nzioka said tenants who live in the plot reported hearing the cry of a baby in the dead of the night and alerted his office.

The baby was rushed to the Ekalakala health centre for treatment. Nzioka said his office will collaborate with the police to establish who the parents of the baby are. Ciara says she is cool with Future

Ciara says that she is cool with her baby daddy Future after the pair who have a ten month old baby, split sometime last year amidst cheating rumours.

The 29-year-old singer was quoted saying  “It clearly didn’t work out. But I have the greatest gift, the greatest joy of my life is my son. Honestly, I feel like everything in life happens for a reason and my son has been the greatest gift that God has given me in my life and been the most game-changing thing that’s happened to my life, in a necessary way.”

The former couple initially split in August amid rumours Future was having an affair with his stylist, Tyrina Lee, while on tour, but the couple moved back in together in September in a bid to repair their romance before splitting again in December.

But Ciara claims there is no animosity between them.

She told ‘The Breakfast Club’ on New York radio station Power 105.1: “We’re cool. We have a child together and as a parent it’s important to be able to communicate. We don’t talk every day, there’s no need to. But my son is clearly the connection between him and me and as parents I think it’s important to be able to communicate. I like to stay happy and I like to live life light and make the best of life. And I think that when you carry a certain kind of energy, if you have like a funky energy that you hold within yourself, you just can’t grow.

“You live and you learn. My son has given me so much clarity. Now I’m like a full-on woman.”

Baby survives after being born in a train and falling on the tracks

A newborn baby boy survived after falling onto train tracks moments after his mother gave birth to him in a toilet cubicle.

His mother, 22-year-old Manu,  has gone to the toilet when she began experiencing labour pains on the train.

She fainted soon after giving birth – while her son fell through the toilet chute and on to the tracks.

The baby was later rescued by a guard after he was heard crying .

Manu was taken to  hospital once the train reached its destination and was later reunited with her son, BBC Hindi reported.

The hospital’s chief medical officer, Dr SP Rohilla, confirmed that both mother and baby were doing well.

The baby had no serious injuries but, according to the hospital’s neo-natal care unit, was underweight at 2kg (4.4lb).

It is not the first time an incident of this kind has been reported on board Indian trains, which have toilets with holes opening directly onto the tracks.

Baby girl gives “birth” to twins

A baby girl with a rare, mysterious medical condition was found to be ‘pregnant’ with twins when born.

The girl, born to Chinese mainland parents in Queen Elizabeth Hospital Hong Kong, had to undergo surgery at just three weeks old to remove them.

The foetuses, 8 to 10 weeks gestated, had legs, arms, a spine, rib cage and intestines.

Both were also covered in skin one weighed 14.2 grammes and the other 9.3 grammes – and each had an umbilical cord.

The surgery was successful and the girl was discharged from hospital eight days later.

The condition, known as foetus in fetu occurs in just one in 500,000 births in the world and less than 200 cases have ever been reported.

Doctors are yet to fully understand what causes the condition.

British MP’s say yes to “Three parent” babies

In a rather historical move MPs in the UK voted yes for the three parent baby technology.

The UK is now set to become the first country to introduce laws to allow the creation of babies from three people.

In a free vote in the Commons, 382 MPs were in favour and 128 against the technique that stops genetic diseases being passed from mother to child.

During the debate, ministers said the technique was “light at the end of a dark tunnel” for families.

A further vote is required in the House of Lords. It everything goes ahead then the first such baby could be born next year.

Proponents said the backing was “good news for progressive medicine” but critics say they will continue to fight against the technique that they say raises too many ethical and safety concerns.

Estimates suggest 150 three-person babies could be born each year.

Prime Minister David Cameron said: “We’re not playing god here, we’re just making sure that two parents who want a healthy baby can have one.”

Ludacris offers baby mama $10,000 to abort

According to TMZ, Ludacris’s baby mama testified in court that it’s ridiculously ludicrous he’s fighting for full custody of their daughter, because he desperately wanted her to have an abortion to the point he even bribed her.

Tamika fuller  said when Luda found out she was pregnant he cried, but they weren’t tears of joy. He said it would ruin his life and he then urged her to terminate the pregnancy.

According to Tamika, Luda initially offered her $10K and a house if she lost the baby.

Fuller believes Luda’s quick marriage to Eudoxie was just a ploy to show the  judge he has a more stable home than her to enable him get full custody of the child.

French court stops child from being named Nuttela

A French court has stopped parents from naming their baby girl Nutella after the hazelnut spread, ruling that it would make her the target of derision.

The judge ordered that the child be called Ella instead.

He said in his ruling that the name Nutella was the trade name of a spread that is commonplace in Gallic homes.

“And it is contrary to the child’s interest to have a name that can only lead to teasing or disparaging thoughts,” he pronounced.

French parents are usually free to choose the names of their children, but local prosecutors are empowered to report what they deem to be unsuitable names to a family court.

The parents in the case on Monday did not attend the court hearing, so the judge decided in their absence that Ella was a more appropriate name.
