This year’s Emmy Awards went down at the Los Angeles Nokia theater on Sunday 20th September. The annual ceremony celebrates the best of the best in US prime time television.

This year’s edition saw the who’s and who in the entertainment industry attend and of course there had to be a red carpet entry.

Lupita, Victoria Kimani, Sauti sol Nominated For Africa Entertainment Awards

Lupita Nyong’o, Sauti Sol and Victoria Kimani are on the list of nominees for different categories of the African entertainment awards.

Victoria Kimani has been nominated for the best international artist (Canada edition) up against Tanzania’s Vanessa Mdee, Bucie from SA as well as Yemi Alade and Sheyi Shay from Nigeria.

Guest performances will be by Uganda’s Bebe Cool, Awilo Longomba from Congo and Bow bow from the USA.

The awards will held on the 5th of September at Living Arts Centre Mississauga in Canada.

The USA version of the awards has, Lupita has nominated as the most influential person, while Sauti sol have been nominated for the hottest group

The awards will be on the 31st of October and the voting lines close on the 10th of October.

Africa Entertainment awards are dedicated to honouring achievements in African entertainment and recognizing individuals who have had a positive impact on the African entertainment industry.

MTV MAMA’s Awards Winners 2015

The MTV MAMA’s awards went down on Saturday night in Durban South Africa. The event saa the best selection of African artists celebrated in different awards for the different arts they do.

The annual event was hosted by Anthony Andesrson and saw performances from Neyo, Jhene Aiko, Kenya’s own Sauti Sol, Nigeria had Davido , Yemi, Burna boy, Patorankin  among others.

MTV MAMA’s Set For July

This year’s edition of MTV Africa Music Awards is back. It will be hosted at the Durban International Convention Centre, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on July 18.

The annual celebration of African talent takes ‘evolution’ as its theme, recognising and rewarding musicians and achievers who have made the most impact on African youth culture over the last 12 months, while also celebrating the development of the continent’s talent and creativity over the last 10 years.

The ceremony will feature stunning performances from African and international artists along with unique collaborations.

MAMA 2015 will celebrate African talent across 17 award categories such as Best Male, Best Female, Best Song and Best New Act Transformed by Absolut. The contribution of artists from Portuguese and French-speaking Africa will also be recognised in the Best Lusophone and Best Francophone categories.

In line with the ‘evolution’ theme, this year’s show will also feature a special edition Artist of the Decade category.

Past winners of the award from Kenya are Amani, Wahu, Nameless and Daddy Owen.

BAKE Awards 2015 Winners

The annual BAKE (The Bloggers association of Kenya) gala took place Saturday night at Hotel Intercontinental. Silvia Njoki of the fashion and style blog Silvianjoki.com was the big winner of the night after winning in two major categories.

Silvia was the overall winner of the blog of the year award and also had a landslide win in the fashion blog category. Bikozulu retained his title as best creative writing blog and so did ghafla in the entertainment category.

The BAKE Kenyan Blog Awards scheduled for the 2 of May 2015 revealed their nominees list at the InterContinental Hotel on Monday.

The aim of the awards is to recognize bloggers with creative, innovative and useful content.

This year’s awards theme is Content is King , it aims to bring together various online content creators including corporate organizations, celebrities, SMEs, county governments, etc to celebrate the growth of the Kenya blogging space.

People’s Choice Awards 2015 – Complete Winners List!

The fans were in charge of all the awards at the 2015 People’s Choice Awards held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on Wednesday (January 7) in Los Angeles.

The show was hosted this year by Mom co-stars Anna Faris and Allison Janney.

The big winner of the night was CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, which took home the award for Favorite TV Show and Favorite Network TV Comedy. It was the fourth year in a row that the show won the latter category.

Lupita Nyong’o honoured at Glamour awards

Actress Lupita Nyongo last night received her Glamour Woman of the Year Award 2014 at a colorful ceremony in New York.

She was honored together with a host of women celebrities,entrepreneurs among others Chelsea Clinton, Sylvia Earle, Robin Roberts, Mindy Kaling and Samantha Power.

Nyong’o won a supporting-actress Oscar for her performance in “Twelve Years a Slave,” capping her swift rise to the top ranks of Hollywood and the fashion world.

She was also named a new face of Lancome and appeared on the cover of People magazine’s Most Beautiful issue. She will be appearing in the new “Star Wars” movie.

Kenyan wins the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year

Kenyan photojournalist Joseph Mathenge has been named this year’s CNN MultiChoice African Journalist.

Mathenge, a freelance journalist, was awarded the overall ‘CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year’ Award for his work ‘Images of Terror’, which appeared in The Saturday Nation and was chosen from entries spanning 38 nations across the African continent.

Seven Kenyan journalists had been shortlisted for the awards, four of them clinched top honors in their individual category during the Gala dinner at Mlimani City Conference Centre, in Dar es Salaam, .

Ngugi wa Thiong’o misses out on Nobel Prize for Literature

Patrick Modiano from France is the winner of the 2014 Nobel Prize for Literature.

Modiano beat a strong list of writers to the prize including Kenya’s Ngugi wa Thiong’o who had been billed as favorite to win it.

The Nobel Academy described the novelist, whose work has often focused on the Nazi occupation of France, as “a Marcel Proust of our time”.

The award – presented to a living writer – is worth eight million kronor (£691,000).

The academy said the award was “for the art of memory with which he has evoked the most ungraspable human destinies and uncovered the life-world of the occupation”.

Ngugi wa Thiong’o favorite for Nobel prize for literature

Novelist Ngugi  wa Thiong’o  has been nominated for the  2014 Nobel prize for literature of which is has been named as a one of the favorites and likely to win.

Wa Thiongo is one of  East Africa’s leading novelist, whose popular Weep Not, Child  was the first major book in English by an East African.

His work includes novels, plays, short stories, and essays, ranging from literary and social criticism to children’s literature. His work has also been used as education material in secondary school set books.

As he became sensitized to the effects of colonialism in Africa, he adopted his traditional name .

Other nominees for the acollade include Haruki Murakami and Svetlana Alexievich. The announcement is set for later on Thursday from the Laureate of the Swedish academy.
