This Is Kenya’s Most Trending Personality List For 2015

The late Fidel Odinga, a prominent businessman and son of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was the most trending search on google in Kenya this year. Fidel was also the most trending search under ‘People we lost in 2015’ after he passed away, in January, and the number one most trending Kenyan personality.

Google has released the annual Year In Search 2015, which uncovers searches and questions that drove Kenyans online throughout the year.

The late Fidel Odinga topped the trending Kenyan personalities list while Gloria Muliro was second. Third on the list was businessman, Paul Kobia, who drove Kenyans to search following his arrest by police after he claimed that he knew who and what had killed Raila Odinga’s son, Fidel Odinga..The late George Muchai, who served as Kabete Member of Parliament (MP), was fourth on the list after he was gunned down in Nairobi, while the late Nana Gichuru – a well-known actress and blogger who died in a tragic car accident – was number five. Other trending personalities include: Dr. Auma Obama – half sister to U.S President Barack Obama; the late Murimi wa Kahalf – popularly known for his hit song “Ino Ni Momo”; Dr. Mugo wa Wairimu, alias James Mugo Ndichu, who is accused of allegedly sedating and raping women in his clinic; senior reporter Jackie Maribe after rumors of her love affair with top Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi and Neno Evangelism preacher – Pastor James Maina Ng’ang’a after he was allegedly accused of causing fatal accident along Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

2015 was also the year Kenya and the world bid farewell to some of its most dynamic personalities and the late Fidel Odinga was the most trending personality among ‘People we lost in 2015’

KPL gives plans for 2015 season

The KPL governing body met on Tuesday and approved fixtures and plans for the 2015 KPL  season.

After wrangles in the  2014 season  KPL declared it will now ignore any FKF decisions and threats which violate the previous FIFA and FKF-KPL cooperation agreements and arrangements over the last decade.

During the meeting it was agreed that the Council decided to refocus on it’s limited resources on continuing to make the KPL one of the most corruption-free, professionally managed, highly competitive and widely admired leagues in Africa.

The plans settled upon include :

1. The season will kick off on Saturday, February 21, 2015.

2. There will be  16 teams as recommended by FIFA, this will include the top 14 teams in 2014.

3. If any  KPL teams renege on or refuse to sign the new legally binding agreement, then the League will proceed without them.

4. KPL will respect the FIFA principle of relegation and promotion and the last two teams will be relegated and two teams promoted at the end of the season.

5. On the selection, testing and appointment of match officials, the Governing Council agreed to abide by the FKF-KPL joint arrangements as in  previous years. However, if FKF refuses to cooperate, then from February 9th KPL will undertake those functions directly. If, as it has threatened to do, FKF bans the match officials selected by KPL, then KPL will insist that those bans all be rescinded before engaging in any future discussions with FKF.

On the IDCC and appeals, the Governing Council agreed to maintain their membership. Other KPL decisions included:

6. The referees fees will be raised for the year 2015 season.

7. The documents in the KPL Dossier to FIFA Ethics Committee are now public documents and can be found on the KPL website.

8. FKF must confirm recognition of KPL as the Company charged with clubs in running the Premier League.

Embrace the spirit of partnership and oneness in 2015, says President Uhuru

President Uhuru Kenyatta was not left behind in wishing Kenyans a prosperous 2015 in his new year’s address from statehouse Nairobi. He addressed the achievements of the Jubilee government in 2014. Thanked Kenyans for the cooperation they have shown him and for maintaning peace during the festivities. You can read his whole address below,

Fellow Kenyans,

As we come to the end of the Year 2014 and usher in the Year

2015, we have a lot to thank God for. We thank God for bequeathing us a great country endowed with bountiful resources.

As a nation and a people, we have collectively achieved a lot and weathered many storms. In all this, we remain grateful to God for bringing us this far.

I am grateful to all Kenyans for the tremendous support extended to my administration in 2014. Your resilience, determination and hard work have significantly moved this country forward.

Notably, I wish to thank you, my fellow citizens, for your cooperation with and support to the security agencies, who ensured that Kenya remained secure during the festive season.

We have made good efforts to keep ourselves and our families safe during the festive season.

On the roads and in our homes, Kenyans have demonstrated that it is possible to be happy and responsible at the same time.

We had a few and most regrettable tragic accidents on the road. I wish to condole the bereaved families and extend words of comfort to the injured. On the same note, it is evident that Kenyans have greater responsibility for their own safety. This is reflected in the significant decline in the number of tragedies this season.

Let us work even more to be secure, safe and happy. I am gratified that Kenyans, and all others who live in our country, heeded my call to go about their business without fear.

A good number of you took time off to enjoy your holidays in various places across the country. This demonstrates that united with one purpose and in partnership, we can and will secure our nation and make it prosperous.

I thank all the people who worked hard during the holiday season to ensure that Kenyans and our visitors remained safe. In particular, I recognise our security personnel who have done a splendid job in securing our country.

Many Kenyans have sacrificed their Christmas to ensure that the rest of us are safe.

I also appreciate our doctors and nurses who worked tirelessly to attend to emergencies.

On behalf of the entire nation, I thank each and every one of you, and wish you God’s blessings in the coming year.

Fellow Compatriots,

We are on an epic journey to our destiny; a developed nation as articulated in our Vision 2030 blue print.

We, a great people of a great nation, are on a transformational journey. While we know this journey is replete with challenges, it is also full with hope and promise.

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, let us resolve that in the New Year, we will unite and devote ourselves to the greatness of this nation. Let us strengthen our pledge to dedicate ourselves – one and all – to the attainment of the Kenyan Promise that is at once so real and possible.

Let us stand as one people to answer the urgent call of our glorious destiny. If we work hard, work together in our many different ways, we will be abundantly rewarded.

If we love one another, celebrate our diversity, resist division and stay united, we will achieve greatness.

Let the New Year be the year of the Kenyan Family, and of every single family in Kenya.

Let 2015 be the year when our communities cement ties of friendship, harmony and love.

Let this New Year be a time of renewal of our support for our children and youth. In the coming year, I urge Kenyans to renew our shared aspiration for peace, progress, equity and justice.

Let us all join hands and declare the Year 2015 to be our year of possibility. The year of building on the strong foundation we have laid to secure Kenya’s future.

Brothers and sisters, Happy New Year.

I wish each one of you God’s blessings, success and happiness as you continue building our great nation in 2015.

God Bless You! God Bless Kenya!”

KPL 2015/2016 season to have more teams

The 2015/16 KPL season will now have an enlarged 18 team league. FKF National Executive Committee has issued the following proposals on the new format as follows;

• The Number 16 team in the KPL Nakuru All Stars will be automatically relegated to the lower league while the Number 15 team Nairobi City Stars  F.C. will remain in the league.

• The two automatic winners of the FKF National Super league Zone A and B namely Shabana and Rangers FC will be automatically be promoted.

• The two 1st runners up in the FKF National Super League Zone A and B namely Kakamega Homeboyz and Nakumatt F.C will square it off in one match and the winner takes the third qualifying slot.

• The playoff match between Kakamega Homeboyz and Nakumatt F.C will play at the Afraha Stadium on 22nd November 2014. We believe that the 2015 season will now be more exciting and competitive.
