Maina and King'ang'i speak on Omanyala's Olympics

Many Kenyans gave their opinion on the criticism that the sprinter has received

On today's morning show, Maina and King'ang'i discussed Omanyala's performance at the Olympics and the criticism he has faced.

On Sunday, Omanyala's bid to become the first Kenyan to reach the 100m final at the Olympics faltered as he finished a distant eighth in the semi-final, clocking 10.08 seconds and coming second to last.

"Where is the criticism for Omanyala coming from? Do we understand what it takes?" Maina asked. "We need to stop having these unrealistic expectations for our athletes. Can we just congratulate Ferdinand Omanyala?"

Here is what people had to say:

  • 254memer: "Criticism is coming from people who can’t even hit a gym. The noise of frogs doesn’t stop cattle from drinking water."

  • Brian Isanda: "Omanyala represented us well. Remember, in business, there are both profits and losses, but you keep going. Well done, Omanyala."

  • Wanjiku Mugane: "Qualifying for the finals in that heat would have been a miracle. No. 8 out of 9 was definitely not the Omanyala we know."

  • Ubaga Indumwa: "The concern is mainly from the starting blocks. Even in the last Olympics, he had the same issue. In both Olympics, he was very poor off the blocks."
