Rihanna had an epic performance of “Wild Thoughts” alongside DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller at this year’s Grammy Awards. The awards took place in New York City.
What was notable about the performance is its incorporation of the popular South African Gwara Gwara dance.
The pop star is not new to using non-mainstream styles in her stage performance. For “Work” with Drake, the star has used Jamaican aesthetics for her stage presence.
It was Rihanna’s big night as her collaboration with Kendric Lamar bagged an award for best rap/sung performance. “Royalty” is off Kendric’s “Damn” album which got 7 nominations for the 60th Grammys.
Kendric praised the Bajan beauty, saying that “gassed me on my own song” and that the award “really belongs to her.”
When it was her turn to speak, Rihanna said that it was an honor collaborating with the rapper.
“Well thank you Kendrick for giving me this incredible opportunity to be on such a good record,” she said. “I’m honored to be able to do this with you.”
